anyone still use shortening or lard to fry food in?????

I am sorry....but pork fat rules.

I use it when I make green beans like my granny did.
I use it to precook onions in several recipes.

I hardly ever eat actual bacon....but use it to cook with (I mean like for breakfast).

Otherwise I use olive oil.

Depends on what I want it to taste like.....

we go through a medium sized can of lard a week! I need to lay off that stuff

Ok here is one for all the health nuts. Don't know or remember where I read it hit it is healthier to fry chicken in shortening than in Canola or corn oil. Something about it not retaining as much of the bad fats. Another FYI even though it don't matter here kfc uses canola and not shortening anymore. Is easier and cheaper for them.

I love to fry eggs in bacon grease. Popcorn too. Cast Iron loves it! But extra-virgin iluv oil is so much better for many things.

I use shortening all the time. It's how I make homemade buttermilk biscuits. I use bacon grease all the time too to fry things in. If food is going to kill me anyway with all the new GMO and hydrogenized crapola they use everywhere now...then I'd just as soon to die peacefully at home holding a fattening bacon and biscuit made of PIG FAT...that stuff is good! Either way, something is gonna getcha!

The fats I use depend on what I am making. I won't stir fry veggies in lard or bacon grease, or make spanish rice with olive oil.

I use many oils and fats in my cooking.

I still use lard to make pastry. The recipe is on the package.

Coconut oil is better for you than canola oil. I always was told that coconut oil was bad for you but that isn't true.

Canola is almost all GMO. I was reading that canola oil is not allowed in infant food.

A documented conversation of several medical experts published on the Journal of the American College of Nutrition website stated...

"Canola oil is not allowed in infant formula in the United States or Canada. Some studies in humans have associated intake of canola oil with cardiac fatty infiltration. More recently, some studies using hypertensive rats have shown that intake of canola oil increases hypertensive events in these animals."

Amen! I think all this new GMO crap will kill us faster than gook old lard and bacon grease.
At least we know what we're putting in our bodies!

The only problem with eating the way our ancesters did is that we don't work the way they did!
