Anyone successfully put a fat hen on a diet?

LOL she's plenty good at finding her own treats, apparently. Never thought I'd see chicken "keep away" with a GOPHER HEAD. Hahaha

Ok, I'll see if they come running into their coop tonight if I just shake the food dish. It's a start. Thanks for the feedback.

I'll do a start weight tonight sometime and again in a week. Maybe a gopher diet will work for her! Like atkins, only still furry.

I am guessing she is going to outsmart you at every turn... good luck and thanks for laugh. Delightful to enjoy a giggle, she sounds like a contended chicken.

That sounds like  a perfect weight for a laying hatchery barred Rock.

I wouldn't change anything, personally.

Even with a large bit of squishiness by her abdomen? A few irregular eggs and occasional tail bobbing? Maybe it's IB I'm seeing? I want to regulate treats and her voracious appetite for a while to see if it could be weight. IB there's nothing other than a healthy lifestyle that can help, right? What else would cause all that? She is hatchery and has a small frame. Thanks!

If a gopher head is the worst you have seen her eat you are lucky. I watched my flock fight over all sorts of rodents the cats catch for them. They let the cats eat the guts then the flock eats the skin heat and bones. Forget manners if the find a snake, they turn all veloce rapture. During the winter you want them to gain a bit to stay warm. Once summer hits she should think out. However holding her so the others get treats as well isn't a bad idea.
