Anyone tried Electric Radiant in floor heat in coop ???

My coop is 3' wide x 5.5' long x 4' tall (interior space), fully insulated, and built with standard 2x4 framing, and it's built inside the back of my garage.

With an insulated coop that small, the chickens body heat will keep things plenty warm.
No need to waste money on a fancy heating system

OK...DH is the construction guy, so I ran your proposition by him. He seemed to think it was a decent idea, after he learned how small the coop was (because he said the rad. mat stuff was expensive per sq. ft.). He suggested tiling with just cheap tile for easy clean up, and add bedding on top of that. With good insulation in the coop, it wouldn't be too bad to run (cost wise). He liked the idea anyway, and said it was safe (nothing open). So maybe it's something to look at before next winter...

He always enjoys an "outside the box" kind of idea...lol.

Heating the floor would not be a good idea. It will increase the release of ammonia from the droppings and create a much greater problem than the cold ever would. Draft free is much more inportant than heat.
