Anyone up for a Hatchalong?

Pics
Ok great I've been hoping I didn't miss the hatch, also I lowered it back to 99 so the top is 97.5 & the bottom is 96.something.

i would also go with 96.. especially after having spoken to the local lady who had the male emu take 60 days to hatch out a clutch

she even mentioned that when she incubated emus eggs in her bators that she went with 95 to 96 degrees and had less problems than she did with chicks that hatched out at higher temperatures

Ok thank you both for the replies on the temp, I figured 96 was the way to go but for about 24 hours some were 98 so I'm hoping they'll be ok!

well.. according to the emu farmers handbook...

96 degrees.. 55-56 days to hatch

optimal hatch results came from temps between 96.5 degrees and 97.5 degrees.. with hatch between a total of 49 and 54 days

at the high end of the spectrum they have 98 degrees and days to hatch between 46 and 48 days

they mention that if eggs are exposed for several hours above 100 degrees or if it drops into the 70's for several hours that it's considered 'unacceptable temperature fluctuations" and can cause the death of the chick.. so sounds like yours should be fine even if they were at 98 degrees for 24 hours or more

Ok that's very helpful thank you! I had them at 98 top shelf & 97 the bottom but I'm positive they never went higher than that. I know I need to make up my mind soon because it can't be good for them to keep changing temps up to 2 degrees difference. I remember reading something you wrote yinepu about how emu eggs can't take fluctuating temps like a chicken egg can, right? If you know what I'm talking about lol will you tell me again?

So after reading that in the handbook, would you still pick 96 over 98? The whole incubation the bottom shelf has been 96 (sometimes 97 but not usually) with the top shelf a good 97-97.8. If my $ would ever get here I'd order that book, especially since its about Rheas to Sony could use it when I get those eggs too.

Ok last thing :) This is how I've been turning my eggs the entire time then realized it causes the chick to not even touch on side of the egg so I'm not sure if that's bad or not...I read that it's not good for emu eggs to be turned like chicken eggs because it does something to twist their yolk sac chord. Anyways so I have a sticker on them with their letter, in the morning that sticker is on the left of the egg, 2nd turn its on the right side of the egg, then so on. Instead of spinning the egg I just flip it back & forth every time I turn so that the one side of the egg never has the embryo resting on it. Gosh I hope that makes sense!!

i would still stick with the 96 degrees over the 98

with chickens the hen will get off the nest once a day (sometimes for up to an hour).. but usually for about 20 minutes or so.. most male emus (from what I have read) will stay on the nest most of the time.. the only exception that I know of for sure was the local woman I spoke to.. her male is 19 years old and gets off the nest once a day or so (as far as she knows it's every day).. but I don't think she has actually seen him do it on a daily basis.. so my understanding of the info given is that chicken eggs can handle more of a chill than emu eggs can..

I have a fish tank thermometer laying in my LG bator (since i turn eggs in it first each time).. i have it pointing to the right or left.. and when I turn eggs I just turn it as well so it's pointing in the opposite direction,.. helps to remind me which way to turn the eggs each time since I use it as an arrow..

lol.. so whatever works best for you to remind you is the way you should go

Looks like one of my new eggs is oozing. I checked them last night before I left for work ( where I am right now), and there is a spot on the end that has a bubble and a little streak running down. :( I think it is the white egg, the stickers where turned away from me. My friend didn't pay much for these eggs, only $20 for all 4, maybe they weren't sure about how fresh they where. I thought it was kind of odd they was selling them that cheap. I will probly take it out when I get home. Oh, well, maybe I'll still get a chick out of one of them.

awww...
hopefully you have some good eggs left in there

Yea there's a good chance all 4 eggs werent layed on the same day & the oozy egg was just the oldest one. They might of only had one or 2 breeding pairs & if so it'd take a while to get 4 eggs so it'd be very likely 2-3 of the eggs were pretty fresh. The breeder I got my eggs from had 3 breeding pairs & only got 5 eggs in 7 days so 2 of my eggs were 7 days old, then if your source only hady 1-2 pairs then an egg or 2 could've been quite older than 7 days so there's definitely hope!

Oh my golly jeepers yinepu, 7 eggs wiggling? That's so awesome, I have a feeling you're going to be up to your ears in chicks, lucky you lol! Those on
day 42 are your oldest eggs right? Wow they're getting close & already 7 wigglers? You still have several eggs not old enough to wiggle don't you? Oooh I'm so happy for you! My slow pokes are on day 18

I got two wigglers here too, both on day 33. I spotted one of them moving inside the incubator two days ago, maybe it had an itch to scratch but now they'll both wiggle when I whistle to em.
