# 8 is peeping!
#8 is my biggest egg and also my favorite
on the downside #5 started leaking and #2 is sloshy and #9 is bad
I am now at only 5 eggs left and day 49 is the 3rd
The lady did tell me that fertility was questionable

on the bright side all the eggs that were bad were small anyway. = no sickly runts
I think they were the first of the season and the male hadn't caught the female yet.

Yinepu,
Are these the eggs that were in the Reptilpro incubator?

Egg A has a chick with an attitude...

he's not due to hatch til Saturday.. this afternoon I found this:

the egg sounded yesterday... so in case anyone is wondering.. there's really no way of knowing how long it will be from an egg sounding to hatching.. lol.. I never even heard him peep til I picked up the egg after he had started to hatch...

Now the problem with this egg is that he's hatching from the BOTTOM of the egg...

When I place the egg on a flat surface the crack and missing piece of the shell is directly on the bottom .... so I had to turn the egg up a bit so he can hatch....

silly emu........

Yinepu,
Are these the eggs that were in the Reptilpro incubator?

Yeah... They were all started in the Reptipro.. I moved them to the modified LG for hatching since it has a larger floor space and those chicks need room when they start hatching.

Egg C, C-1 (both hatched) and C4 (a dud) were from Heston, Kansas
B-1 and B-2 were both from Auburn, California.. i am thinking they were scrambled during shipment since they both never wiggled or showed any signs of life
Egg A just hatched out this morning.. he was from Elberta, Alabama
all three of the "duds" feel sloshy when I turn them.. So on Sunday I will be drilling a hole in them to see if there was ever any sign of life

I love the Reptipro for incubation.. but like I said there isn't enough room in it for 6 emu eggs when the chicks start to hatch

I do have 3 eggs in the Reptipro now that are iffy.. they should have wiggled but so far I haven't seen anything (egg D-1 & D-2 from Sonora, California and egg D4-J from Heston, Kansas) I'm thinking they are also duds since both of the Sonora eggs came in the same shipment.

I am finding that with my emu eggs the ones who have traveled the furthest seem to have done the worst...
Lampasas, Texas egg: 20 miles.. only 1 egg.. too early to tell
Heston, Kansas eggs: 548 miles.. 5 good out of 7 total (2 shipments one "dud" per shipment.. probably a fertility issue)
Elberta, Alabama egg 710 miles... 4 good out of 4 total (3 shipments)
Sonora, California eggs: 1718 miles.. 0 good out of 2 total (1 shipment.. probably scrambled)
Auburn, California eggs 1801 miles.. 0 good out of 2 total (1 shipment.. probably scrambled)

How's your baby today Yinepu?

the baby that I taped the legs on decided at about 4PM yesterday that he didn't need the hobbles.. managed to get one foot out of them as he was doing laps around the brooder.. so I took them off.. he's doing great.. I still don't know if he was thrashing about from losing too much weight or from a sore navel.. but he's doing fine today.. I did notice that he did drink a lot of his vitamin water yesterday..

the "ninja" emu who decided to hatch out of the bottom of his egg is also doing great.. I rolled the egg over a bit so he could break the shell off easier.. when I checked on him at 6AM he was out of his shell but still a little damp.. he's in the incubator for a few more hours then he gets to go to the brooder with the others..

so far only one has had a bloody navel.. and that was the chick I taped the legs on.. he was also the only one who was having issues in the incubator

the next egg isn't due until the 10th.. so no idea if he will be early or right on time
