They are 10 kinds of adorable. If I were to buy from you, it would be to create a breeding pair(s), and I promise I would love and adore them.

While I want to sell eggs and meat at a farmers market, I do want to have a pair that I just love and adore.

Holy moly the cuteness factor in these babies is over the top. Do emus make great pets if played with as chicks, or do they get aggressive when they get older even if you played w/them as chicks?

As scary as they look, they actually make great pets if you remember a couple of things.... I think of them as a cross between a chicken and a horse. They can kick wildly when scared or cornered ( mostly if you are trying to grab them and steer them somewhere while scared) and will run slap into a fence when frighted enough.. They LOVE LOVE Shiny, Glittery, Metal, Stringy or Colorful objects, and won't think twice about trying to grab them. They do not understand what personal space is. Some have a fascination for biting ears.... But none of this is done out of meanness,.... just a child like curiosity. I've not had any of them be mean, not even in breeding season... but there are exceptions out there. I just took the last 3 eggs from under my male and he only offered a grunt as I tipped him sideways off his nest. I've had worse bites from broody hens then I have ever had from an emu.... hehe If you've delt with horses and chickens you would have a good understanding of emus. Just think a large chicken with the strength and flight response of a horse.... with less brains.
But that said, they are very loving, come up and give me hugs, crave attention( especially the males) and Hugely CURIOUS... and will try to eat anything metal or plastic. They like to be with you, they can get along with most animals if raised up with them. Mine help the Great Pyr dogs guard our property... The dogs go tearing off after something.... and there goes the emus right after them. Plus most people won't step near them... so good yard protection.

Thank you for that insight. They sound wonderful. I'm going to try to hatch some for a friend of a friend and I was thinking of keeping a few of them, but wanted to get some insight into them before I invest in a fence. And that was the king of insight I was looking for.

Way to go Chickenzoo...it's awesome you have four little babies already!! I am SO JEALOUS!! I have about 50 days to go!! I just can't wait to have some little yellow and black striped fuzzy butts running around my brooder pen again!! THey are so much fun.

I am also glad to see that so many people are interested in Emu's...They are great animals.

OMG I took mine out to roll and weigh them. The smallest of the two was moving a little on my desk. I went to tell DH to come see and the egg rolled off the desk onto the carpeted floor! I put it back on my desk and it was twisting sideways. I hope it is still ok. I will check it again later when I turn it. We thought we saw a little movement from egg two but not sure. Today is day 41.
