I wish you the best...I am scared myself. I have 2 eggs chipping, one has a small hole another none. I am debating if I should drill a hole in a second one. It's killing by not doing anything

Ok, update on Egg B.

Decided to open the shell and assist, it's not breech, the head was tucked along the belly. There is some bleeding but I'm not sure if it's active bleeding or just a pool that accumulated.
Either way the chick is very very weak and I'm not sure it will make it. I don't know if I waited too long or if I should have waited longer.

Ok, it's out and resting. The navel was still connected to the membrane and bled a bit however only some of the blood vessels in the membrane still had blood in them, the rest were all brown.
I applied quick stop to the navel and am checking it regularly to see if the bleeding has stopped.
The yolk was fully absorbed and aside from the blood vessel at the navel it's fully closed.

Some of the membrane was stuck to the shell, I'm guessing this was the source of all the problems.

Mine took about 15 hours to pip through the egg after it started to peep and peck around. I wouldn't worry unless you see movement reduced or the chirping is weaker.

Yeah I'm sure I didn't nick the chick, I came in at a very steep angle with my pick to break off a bit of the shell and then gently lifted up the membrane with the tip rather than just poking through. But the hole I made in the membrane is very tiny, only about as big around as the thickness of a CD and the blood wasn't gushing out or anything even before I put the quick stop on but it spooked me enough to stop.

Trying to think of other options here. One thing I've considered is just going all out and removing the shell from the large end and getting the chick out of there nice and easy, possibly in the bathroom with the shower running to get some humidity going for it, even with the wet paper towels it's getting a little dry in there, though the membrane is still pliable.

But aside from that, the chick that hatched on it's own is doing great, such a friendly little thing too, it loves to have it's back rubbed.

you don't need the higher humidity at hatch for emus like you do for poultry.. so no worries there..

how many days is it past due?.. if it's well after 50 days here's what i would do

I would start at the air cell end chipping away the shell.. but I would be on the lookout for blood and the yolk sack .. if I saw either one it would be time to patch the shell up and sit back and wait longer

if it's just at day 50 or 51 and you already have holes in the shell I think I would just wait it out..

but in the end it's your call since it's your chick.. either way blood or a visible yolk sack would mean the chick is still not ready to hatch yet

Oh my gosh! Cuteness!
I also made hole last night , very tiny one, the chick inside is talking and trying to get out but no pipping yet. The membrane also showed sign of blood and I almost fainted. I put a wet band-aide on and now constantly reapplying moisture. Another egg also talking and I can hear it pocking the shell ,but no pipping.
Irine.. you only need to add moisture like that if you are
1: trying to view the membrane and see what's going on there
2: trying to add back moisture from chicks that lost too much weight..

emus aren't like chickens or ducklings when they hatch.. so they don't need the increased humidity

well.. glad to hear he's still alive.. do you have any chick vitamins with B vitamins in it?.. if so get some in him to help with the blood loss

You're welcome! It nearly killed me waiting for him, but the patience paid off and he was quite healthy. The only time I helped was when he was nearly out of the shell, but being clumbsy about it. His head was out, but I wanted to see the rest of him and dumped him out of the shell.
