Thank you for the advice. The hole I made is about the size of a match head, the membrane is at the shell level and still there. There is a hairline line in the membrane that gave a tiny sign of blood yesterday.I can see the membrane moving when chick is taking a breath inside. I appreciate everyones help here at the forum

Irine.. you only need to add moisture like that if you are
1: trying to view the membrane and see what's going on there
2: trying to add back moisture from chicks that lost too much weight..

emus aren't like chickens or ducklings when they hatch.. so they don't need the increased humidity

you don't need the higher humidity at hatch for emus like you do for poultry.. so no worries there..

how many days is it past due?.. if it's well after 50 days here's what i would do

I would start at the air cell end chipping away the shell.. but I would be on the lookout for blood and the yolk sack .. if I saw either one it would be time to patch the shell up and sit back and wait longer

if it's just at day 50 or 51 and you already have holes in the shell I think I would just wait it out..

but in the end it's your call since it's your chick.. either way blood or a visible yolk sack would mean the chick is still not ready to hatch yet

When I opened the egg the chick was upside down when I found the head it was tucked between the belly and left thigh rather than curled up next to the shoulder so it couldn't even reach the shell with it's leg in the way and a dime sized bit of membrane was stuck to the shell up at the shoulders. The yolk was fully absorbed, I couldn't even see it at the navel. I applied quick stop right away until the bleeding stopped, but it did not bleed very much at all.

What a cute lil guy Did you taped his feet? I wonder is it ok to let them wobble or just tape them to prevent problems with legs

It was getting noticeably quieter and not as active so I decided if it was going to die then I'd rather it die with at least an attempt to save it rather than have it end up so weak it couldn't break free at all and die without having left the egg.

yeah since the yolk was absorbed then he was ready to come out of that egg.. lol.. I didn't see where you had him out until after I posted how I would attempt to open the egg up

I have a football shaped egg that I may end up having to help .. he's still very active and not due until the 11th.. so I'm not in any hurry to go exploring just yet
my egg that's due on the 10th hasn't peeped at all.. he's still active.. but not as active as one of the 11th eggs... so I'm not sure if he's just a weaker chick or one who isn't as active.. time will tell I suppose..

congrats on your newest baby.. gonna keep my fingers crossed for him that he gains enough strength to get up and eat in a few days

I had one that was a wobbler.. tethered his legs for a day .. until he managed to get one leg free.. he has been running rampant ever since.. so if I have any others that have a bit of a problem getting their feet under them I'll go ahead and tape them as well
(plus make sure they get plenty of vitamins)

I am thinking of using painters blue tape. It seems not as sticky and difficult to take off the chick as the medical one.What are your thought on this?

I hope the lil guy makes it Raptor, if it's still alive now after the hatching process is over then I would think there's a good chance he'll recover if kept from dehydration & exhaustion. It looks like you got it out just in time, I've had a duckling get stuck inside the egg by its membrane before...
