Hi everyone, My name is Bonnie and I was invited to come join the hatch a long by msheets.
So, here's my situation. I don't have any emus. I'm a little scared of emus (I know, they are nice and lovely and all but they are BIG and that freaks me out a little...) Anyhow, I still love all birds and happened to come across some eggs at a local market and won one as back up bidder. I've been incubating the lonely egg for 2 weeks and then won another 2. I figured/hoped a staggered hatch would be okay. So far so good but it's still early.

I am incubating at 97.5 on the advice of online plus local friends who have an emu ranch. (They are hoping I hatch a boy for their unrelated female who needs a mate!)

Doing staggered hatches with emu eggs are not like staggered hatches in other bird species since emus require 30% humidity for the entire incubation. So they should be fine. Im not keeping my chicks either, I don't have my emu pen finished yet so before I got these eggs I found local buyers so I can keep in touch & get eggs from them once I'm able to keep the cute lil boogers. Bonnie, what day are your 3 eggs on?

Kathy I can't believe they're both hatching at the same time! Chick B doesn't look stuck enough to help I don't think, I'd give him a little longer before I intervened. I love the one pic where all you see it the egg & the back of his fluffed up head, the head is almost half the size of the egg where it's dry lol...I often wonder how in the world such big chicks fit in there!?

Also someone on YouTube claimed they know a way to actually candle emu eggs but Bonnie & I both have asked them more than once how & they won't say, just keep stating "they know how & it can be done." Soo if they ever clue me in I'll share it with everyone, if they really do know some way to do it I'd love to try it but I keep thinking over & over in my head ways it might work...but nothing...
