Anyone up for a Hatchalong?

Ok, I weighed the eggs, and was surprised how much weight they lost.-
Starting weight-
D- 604g
E- 630g
Today's weights-
D- 592g
E- 614g
Is that loss amount ok? Also, as I was handling the eggs, I felt the insides sloshing around. Is that a bad sign of the eggs being scrambled and no good at all? I am worried sick about that.

604 - 15% = 90.6 grams total that it needs to lose.. / 50 days = 1.812 per day = 12.684 per week..
so 604- 12.684 = 591.316 grams

630 - 15% = 94.5 grams / 50 days = 1.89 grams per day = 13.23 per week
so 630 - 13.23 grams = 616.77 grams (612 grams would indicate too much weight loss at 20%)

so both eggs look ok to me so far
keep in mind though that you may need to adjust things later on for egg E if it continues to lose at a more rapid weight

sloshing is never good.. but then again you should be careful when handling the eggs since bumping and jarring them can kill a developing embryo (I'm assuming you already know that)..
were these shipped to you?.. if so about how many miles away was the person you got them from?

I have found that for emu eggs the closer they are to you the better.. 710 miles away I still got good eggs.. but when I got eggs from the next closest seller (1718 miles) all of the eggs were scrambled.. so I am guessing that somewhere between 710 & 1718 miles travel distance is the danger zone for emu eggs..

The eggs were shipped to me from New Mexico. That is over 710 miles. It about 1,540 miles. :(

I will roll the eggs very slowly next time since I know that the eggs are sloshing. But I am losing hope for those eggs, but will incubate them full term. :/ Will there be any eggs available within a month? I would wait before spending more money on eggs until I do the wiggle test.

While typing this out, I was looking on craigslist in my state, and found an ad for the INCUBATOR FOR CHICKENS OR EMU EGGS, I called the guy to see if he has any Emu eggs for sale, I am not sure, but I think that he has eggs for sale and can ship them to me, but I am hard of hearing, and he has a thick voice, so I gave him my email address so we can communicate better. So, :fl for that he have some. He lives about less than 150 miles from me.

My two eggs went over 1,300 miles and both produced live chicks, though one was malpositioned and later died due to complications.

it does sound as if they were damaged in transit.. I wish I could give you a better idea as to what the safe distance is.. but if they traveled that far from what I have experienced with the larger eggs (emu) they don't fare very well if they have that far to go.

I would still incubate them until they either stink or are well past their due date.. just in case.. but sorry to say I'm not holding out much hope for them if they are sloshing

hopefully you can get some of those "local" eggs.. sounds that they would do pretty well if you can manage to get some.
I checked my list of ebay sellers of emu eggs (have been compiling it for awhile).. and I don't see anyone listed in your state so far

it may very well be a combination of distance and postal service handling.. I know Pollitollito hasn't had any luck at all with shipped eggs.. so I suspect that since they live in Puerto Rico that the air travel may have done theirs in..
wish we knew for sure.. all I can really go by is the number of eggs I have received and the distance involved.. those closest that are fresh eggs have done much much better than those I received from further away

Lampasas, Texas egg: 20 miles.. only 1 egg.. alive and well
Heston, Kansas eggs: 548 miles.. 5 good out of 7 total (2 shipments one "dud" per shipment.. probably a fertility issue.. eggs were not scrambled when I blew out the shells)
Elberta, Alabama egg 710 miles... 3 good out of 4 total (3 shipments) (one "dud" suspecting fertility issue since it wasn't scrambled when I blew it out)
Sonora, California eggs: 1718 miles.. 0 good out of 2 total (1 shipment.. eggs were very scrambled.. no signs of life at all when I blew the shells out)
Auburn, California eggs 1801 miles.. 0 good out of 2 total (1 shipment.. eggs were very scrambled.. no signs of life at all when I blew the shells out)

for the scrambled eggs.. I couldnt tell the difference between the white and yolk.. but the contents did not stink.. so I know they were not rotten.. plus the contents were thicker that a runny rotten egg.. pretty much looked like scrambled eggs that you would prepare for breakfast

the Killeen eggs are too early into incubation to tell.. I know 3 were very old.. so I can't count them into the equation

I am so sorry about your baby... I lost one in my arms at 3 days old. How is the loner doing?

Yeah, I woke up at 5 AM and found her laying in the corner and held her till she died about 5 minutes later, she was 6 days old. It's a real shame because she was doing so much better than when she hatched, it just took too long for her to get better.

My guy Gerry is doing excellent though, he had a hard time when Gertie died but he's doing much better now, he doesn't stress out when he's in his cage and not able to get to me anymore though he still doesn't like it when I leave the room.
I took him outside today to run around and I showed him some small rocks to swallow. First two times he was out there he didn't like it, did nothing but run around and cry but now he's happy to just follow me around. He's two weeks old today and already grown quite a bit since he hatched, I have to use two hands to hold him now.
He's just the friendliest little thing though, nothing bothers him and he just loves to sit in my lap and be pet, I can even pick him up and carry him around without him throwing a fit.
