I just bought a bag of Nature Smart organic 16 % layer pellets today. This chickens LOVE it! Anyone else use this and have an opinion on it? I bought a 50 lb bag from Agway for $25.

Never heard of it. Glad they like it, though. I've been feeding mine rooster mix cos they simply won't touch pellets. The rooster mix appears to have a variety of different seeds in it and the girls lay well. Unorthodox perhaps, but whatever works, eh?

hmmm...I have an organic brand called "Organic Pride". Thought it was the generic breed you mentioned. It's the layer feed but crumbles. The girls have been on this brand ever since I got them: sterter, grower, layer. They seem to love it but they eat a lot of bugs, weeds, berries and grass - oh and a lot of my veggie plants and a bunch of my mint....Paid around $23 or 25 for 50 lbs. My only question is if I should switch them to pellets.....

Any suggestions???

I didn't know they made layer crumbles. I don't know the answer to this question. My 18 week old just went from grower crumbles right to the layer pellets today. They really love it. Maybe someone else can answer this question.

what is rooster mix?
I just got back from the Local co-op bought 2- 50# bag of Purina
Leyena for 12.69 for 50#.pellets I like that,
its less wasteful them the crumbles.
