Thank you for the input. I should have performed a search before I asked, seeing that post was so recent! Sorry! My husband works in construction, so I'm at an advantage here, and I hadn't considered the snow issue (we do have an issue in our horse barn with a different ventilation thing), because I didn't know what these were or how they worked, so after reading your replies, I asked him what his intentions were.
He planned to put a door on the inside of the ceiling, where the turbine area could be closed off for the winter, as he said yes, snow would be a problem in teh winter. He planned to use this to help the air movement in the hot, humid summer. We won't have electricity out there, unless we run an extension cord, which if it gets too hot, we would do, but he thought this may help with air movement.
There will be additional ventilation for the coop, this is not the only means. The coop will also have soffit all the way around it, and I'm not sure if he's still running a ridge vent as was originally planned? Probably not, that would probably be overkill! But then, might also help the air coming in thru the soffit have a place to get out in the wintertime, with the turbine closed off. I didn't ask him that. Originally, he planned to have a ridge vent on the roof. He builds livestock buildings and things for a living...this is just quite a miniature version...
But I appreciate the input! Don't want to question him....but you've all been there....we have not!
