Hi all Is there anyone on BYC using Champix to give up smoking or has used it? I started taking it yesterday and would like to know if anyone had any bad side effects from it and how it helped them give up.

Well, I am thinking about it.

I honestly don't think any insurance will cover it. I know that when another pill was popular (I'm having a brain freeze on the name), the only way to get insurance to cover it was to have the anti-depressant version prescribed.

We actually have two boxes of Chantix in the closet. I know. We're bad. We were supposed to have started it a few months ago.

When we do start it, it will be our second time trying it. It did seem to work, the first time. But, I was having a hard time with some of the side effects.

The vivid technicolor dreams were an issue. They weren't nightmares, just regular dreams, but so real! I guess that affected my sleep, because driving to work (75 miles, over an hour) I felt like if I blinked I'd fall asleep. And then there was the gas ....
The dog didn't want to be in the same room as me.

So, I stopped taking it, and started smoking more. And then, my husband started smoking more, too. And then .... well, here we are now with two very expensive boxes of Chantix in the closet.

I quit smoking 5 months ago using Chantix and Welbutrin. I had smoked for 10 years. My insurance did not cover it but it was well worth the extra money.

I paid 150.00 for the first month. Then I started taking the welbutrin and did 1/2 the second month of pills I think they cost 80.00. My husband was trying to quit also and he was having a harder time than I was so he took the rest of my pills.

The best advice I can give you is this - When the cigs become distasteful DO NOT try to smoke anyway. My in - laws tried also but tried to smoke thru the distaste and they eventually got used to it. No one is going to come live in your house and hit you over the head with a bat everytime you smoke. If it does not taste/feel right why do it?

I highly recommend CHANTIX. ( and welbutrin)

Come on! You guys can do it cold turkey. You're fowl people for Gods' sake! I'll have to pull out my old nag saying "If I can do it, you can too!" Said that for 7 years and my DH finally did it too. I never thought he would!

Good luck to all of you and don't stop trying!
