So i've been unemployeed for a little while now, Im looking but nothings really hiring around here with my interests. Plus the closest 'big' town is about an hour away. And I've been cooped up all winter.. Its been raining alot here and I haven't been able to get out much.

So lately I've been thinking about volunteering. I have done some volunteering with kids and the community and such(when I was in highschool..), but this time I was thinking to do something career related. I was a vet tech up until recently (I quit because I HATED the 12 hr and 15 min overnight shifts I was working, and I only had critical cased so about 95% of the cases just didn't make it. Good thing I have the best DBF ever, who feeds me and the birds&cats!!).

I was thinking about volunteering at the SPCA or a spay/neuter clinic around here. (only part that worries me is if I volunteered at the SPCA I would end up with about half the animals in the place!) Or even one of the vets office because I have so much expirience.

Got me thinking if anyone here volunteers...?

Can you inquire at the town shelter if they need a vet-tech volenteer? You'll come up against alot of lost souls, but if the idea that some of the animals are going to new homes can get you thru it may work out.

Before I moved I volunteered alot. I worked at a hospital in the cafeteria, I got involved with Therapy Dogs International, volunteered at the vet, and helped my Mom with Meals on Meals.

I volunteer at our local SPCA. I did office work and I go to Petsmart every Monday to take care of the kitties out there. I've been doing it for about two years and have only brought home one kitten and one dog. The dog was six years old and had spend five of those years at the shelter. He is the biggest goofiest dog ever and I love him! Here he is with my little boston laying on top of him,

4h leader here, OHSET trainer, Youth group leader and advisor... Also help in a group with Autism and handicapped children. I give riding lessons to students with disabilities or that are "at risk". I sponsor several students with horses through their graduation at high school... I don't get a dime for any of it but I wouldn't trade the pay for anything.

Another good place to look for volunteer jobs are wildlife refuges and state parks. There are some really neat volunteer positions there. Also, a lot of wild animal rehabilitation centers often look for volunteers as well.

I wish I had more time to volunteer for different things, but right now I'm a 4-H Co-Leader, a volunteer EMT, and I do other various things like habitat for humanity and leadership jobs with my college. Between those things, school, and work, it takes up pretty much all of my time!
