Anyone want to split an order?

I was thinking about getting some female blue runner ducklings but I only need two and the minimum order for ducklings at Meyer is 10...

Has anyone ever split an order before? How does it work?

I am thinking about getting ducklings in March or April.

I'm located in south-eastern Michigan.

I ordered from Meyer - found a friend who wanted four, so we placed an order for 14 - 10 for me, 4 for her. We were originally going to order ten, but, well, I got carried away

Friend and I plan to go to the post office and pick up the little ones - her four blue, my ten black and chocolate - when they arrive.

So, perhaps you know someone who would like some ducks, too. Try outside your usual circle, and ask people you think would never consider it - you'll get some laughs, but you may find someone's secret dream is to have a few ducks. Practice your salespersonship - telling everyone what the ducks' wonderful attributes are. I get a kick out of it, myself.

We have a horse and livestock association in town, perhaps there is a 4H or Mother Earth or similar group you can find.

Keep at it!

Where are you?

Oops, nevermind, I just checked your profile.....you're in Michigan, I'm in Oregon....too far apart.

Even though you only "need" 2 ducks you may want to order 4 or more. That way you have spares in case something happens to a few, or if they turn out to be the wrong sex. Then you can later try to sell your spares, if you have them, as started ducklings or adults.

McMurray Hatchery would mark chicks for me when I split an order with other people. They used some sort of colored marker to dab on the chicks' heads or chests, and would even put certain ones on different sides of the shipping box. That made it easy to tell whose chicks were whose. I don't know if they could do that with ducklings, if their fluff is too oily to be marked.

ducklover15, I wish I could tell you, but I am waiting for my first order! I don't expect these to be show quality birds, so if you want to be sure, then your options are more limited. Nonetheless, I think something can be worked out somewhere. And I did order ten in part because I realized that life isn't always easy on ducks, and I would like to end up with a flock of at least six.

Take care!

Metzer farms has blue runners and their minimum is 2.... I've ordered 2 at a time three times form them now (once in summer, once in spring, and once in winter) and all arrived the right sex and healthy!

Also Mcmurray Hatchery has Blue Runners and there minimum is 2 as well.... unless you are dead set on that hatchery it may make sense to just order elsewhere and then not have the need to split

Meyer was the only hatchery I could find with blues.

Yeah I'll probably end up ordering four, I forgot to think if anything were to happen to them...
Awesome! Maybe I'll order from somewhere else then so I don't have to split an order. Thanks guys!
