I have a Brinsea Octagon 20, but I'm sure temperature control is similar. At 99.9, I would leave it. My hatch rates actually improved when I raised my temp half a degree. The beauty of using a Brinsea is that there is no need to fiddle with the temperature once it is set. They are famously dependable as far as regulating temperatures, not like styrofoam where you are constantly making adjustments. If it is between 99.5 and 100.0, I wouldn't touch it. You run the risk of over correcting and going too high or low. Being nervous is understandable, but you have a good incubator. Trust it

Every time I adjusted the temp it never went up or down more than a half degree, so I was not that nervous about adjusting it. I think scflock may have a little bit of hatching experience though, so 99.9 may be right where you want it. The temp does hold rock steady once you get it set

This is my first year hatching, but I'm on my sixth batch. Once I got my temperature and humidity right, I haven't changed a thing. Brinsea really will spoil you

When I first set mine in the incubator I ended up obsessing over two tents of a degree. In retrospect, that's a little pathetic Glad I chose the Brinsea

Ya!! If a tenth of a degree drove you crazy, never try a little giant...lol Once you get it semi right you don't want to look at that knob wrong...lol

You guys are so funny! I woke up to the temp being exactly 100. & again, I'm thinking..."should I TRY to make it a tad lower" but my instincts are telling me "don't mess with it, crazy lady!!!". I'm glad to hear one of you did a little better with the temp higher. I'm glad I went with brinsea. I had to order it online. My local feed shop only sells little giant still air. So I guess I made the right choice. New question: there is barely any water left in the well but humidity is 45-50%. I've been reading, thanks to article's you guys have posted, that the dry end might be better. Should I leave it alone for now?

The same thing happened with mine, the temp climbed a bit when I put the eggs in. I decided to fuss with it to get it back to 99.5, even though I knew the 99.9 was probably alright, I was just a little paranoid. I hatched silkies, too. They were shipped, though, so I was a little cautious with them. All seven of mine that hatched did so on day 21, none of them had any issues hatching and they are all really healthy, energetic little chicks, I think the incubator did a great job! Hope your little one feels better, my little guy has been sick this week, too Keep us posted on the hatch!

Where did you order the eggs from? I ordered from someone on here, Garry Farm, in GA. Eggs came in very good condition. Sorry your little one is sick too. On a positive note, having a sick baby makes me stop obsessing over eggs! When he falls asleep in my arms I do stay on backyard chickens the whole time, though!

That's where I ordered from as well! The chicks are beautiful and healthy, I only wish one of my blue black splash would have hatched, but there were only 3 of them, one had a detached air cell, one was a very early quitter and the other had a saddle air cell, they were the only ones with air cell issues. So I ended up with all buff and white, which are beautiful. Let me know how yours are doing, did your air cells look good? Which colors did you get? They were definitely packaged well, and I only had one detached air cell, so that's not bad.
I ran my humidity at about 45% the first week and adjusted from there. It would change depending on the day and how dry the air was in the house. I lowered it after the first week and ended up between 35 and 40% and my air cells ended up looking great, just keep an eye on them! they will tell you where you need to be. I had read a great tip on here for lowering humidity in the Eco, I washed a small cap (like a toothpaste sized cap) and used that in the water well instead of filling the entire side. There were a few days that the humidity would have been 50% with one half filled, which I think would have definitely been too high.
Distraction definitely helps with egg obsession I think just having a baby or toddler around can distract you from just about anything. Just wait, though, those last three days are killer. I think I reached egg stalker status by day 20
