anyone with WildBlue Internet?

My neighbor said the same thing about calling the Corporate Wild Blue customer service, they suck. So if she has a problem the guy that put it in told her to call him.

My local is just bad. We had rain for 4 days and I was pretty much not able to connect at all during that time- even though the picture on the bottom of the screen showed a signal....

People keep telling me to go back to dial up as it cannot be worse.

Anyway, the WildBlue guy around here , well, no one I know of has signed a contract....

Seems like a lot of people have problems but then a lot of people do not. Seems the same with ANY company by looking at the posts here.

I have hughes. It's horrible. Over priced too. Cable internet (internet that actually works fast which is what 'high speed' is kinda supposed to be indicative of) runs 100 times faster and is almost 50% cheaper.

Unfortunately cable isn't offered where I live so I am stuck with the options of satellite or dial up myself...

I need to use VPN at home too as I am a systems analyst and live about 70 miles from the office I work at. Unfortunately it isn't possible with Hughes as everytime I finally get connected one of the little blips in the connection happens and the VPN connection is terminated...

The other thing to note about Hughes and Wild Blue is their stupid 'Fair Access' policies.

If you download beyond the limit they allow (whether it be based on a daily amount [Hughes] or a monthly [Wild Blue]) They knock you down to dial up speeds...

So all summed up here's the features and services of satellite internet:

1) WAY overpriced
2) Unstable service
3) Substandard Actual Speeds
4) Micro Managed (Limitations on Usage)

Honestly, satellite internet would be a great idea for those of us that have no other options... If the whole setup wasn't so communist...

I spent almost the entire day yesterday without any connection. It rained off and on and the wild blue folks told us that is was just the weather , could not fix it, event thoughwe showed a full signal!! I hate wild blue but unfortunately that is all is available for now here. Seems like it is off more then it is on, way overpriced and crappy tech help too.

We have dial up through our telephone company....

Have checked into w.b. and hughes but have heard too many horror stories. We live in a very rural area and the telephone company tells us, "if we have enough people sign up we can put high speed in your area." I tell them this is a farming community and no "city" is going to pop up in the middle of a field here...the same number of folks who live here now have lived here for many years and the numbers will doubtfully change. So one telephone guy suggested we get a petition together and have everyone in our area sign up for high speed. he said that 30 names should do it. We already have thirty names and still have two people with the petitions still getting signatures. Now we don't know if this will work but we will give it a try. Telephone company is advertising 14.95 a month for high speed and we pay 18.00 now for slow dial up? Now does that make sense? Anyway hope this info helps some of you to get high speed. We haven't turned in our petitions as yet so pray it works for us!!

I have wildblue and I don't have any big big complaints about it. We've had it for a year and the first 6 months was terrible due to shotty installation, but since we got that fixed it's been pretty reliable -- as reliable during storms as our DISHNetwork, I'd say.

I think it's too expensive. We pay the $80 a month to make sure we don't have a usage problem. And in the year we've had it, we've never had problem.

Since it's our only option except dialup, I'd say overall, I am glad to have it.

I live in a small town of 350 people. The phone company told us if we could get enough signatures to offer high speed to us they would put it in. Over 150 people signed the petition but the phone company claimed it was not enough so we are still without. Very fustrating. I want a job at home, but with no reliable internet service, I am out of luck with most things it seems.

Oh, Cara, that is disheartening!

It is bad enough to have to pay a lot for satellite service (sp) but then to have to pay for w.b. or hughes AND sign a contract (2 year here) is just too much just to watch t.v. Bad thing is that we allow it!

The phone company that serves our area said they'd add DSL if enough people called in requesting it too, but 4 years later they still haven't.

Actually, a smaller phone company got a contract from the state to provide internet to a local high school and ran fiber all the way down our road. We are about 40 feet from the line, but that company will not/cannot offer us service because the company that refuses to run fiber (Bell South) said it is their area and will not allow them to give us DSL service...

Something about that should be illegal if it isn't. I know I've wished some of the BellSouth execs would get life sentences a few times...
