1) What type of bird , age and weight (does the chicken seem or feel lighter or thinner than the others.) 5 mo old white cochin standard.no difference in usual weight
2) What is the behavior, exactly. no energy seems injured can't find an injury, she will not walk barely will move her head.
3) How long has the bird been exhibiting symptoms? 2 hours since i went in the coop and saw her
4) Are other birds exhibiting the same symptoms? none at all
5) Is there any bleeding, injury, broken bones or other sign of trauma. i dont see any
6) What happened, if anything that you know of, that may have caused the situation. i think she jumped off a high roost and hurt herself
7) What has the bird been eating and drinking, if at all. all flock, fodder, oyster shell and grit offered free choice. she was eating and drinking fine at the end of yesterday.
8) How does the poop look? Normal? Bloody? Runny? etc. unknown so far.
9) What has been the treatment you have administered so far? took inside tried hand feeding
10 ) What is your intent as far as treatment? For example, do you want to treat completely yourself, or do you need help in stabilizing the bird til you can get to a vet? need to treat myself vet is not an option.
11) If you have a picture of the wound or condition, please post it. It may help. sorry no pics i can grab some this afternoon when i have my wife phone . i dont have a camera on mine.
12) Describe the housing/bedding in use pine shaving big coop. right now wire dog kennel with moving blanket and pine shavings

i heard a big thud this morning walking up to the coop. i opened the chicken door and the first chicken i see is larry (a rooster who had problems as a chick along with tiny who is the white cochin so they are attached to the hip) normally tiny always comes out first and causes a ruckus by blocking the door way. larry ran up to me making some funny noises then went back into the coop so i decided to check on the others. as i walk into the coop i see tiny try to take a step then fall forward, she then sitting up curled her head in puffed up the feathers and refused to move. she gave me no trouble as i picked her up and made no fuss as i examined her. i then brought her inside to my "chicken hospital" in my basement. she barely opens her eyes is laying on her side and is not eating or drinking. i tried to hand feed her some water but was only able to get a drop or 2 in here ( i tried both water and some save a chick i keep on hand. water no go but she did take a sip or 2 of the save a chick via a dropper.

tiny has always refused to sleep on the perches until about 2 or 3 days ago. i think she might of hurt herself trying to jump off a taller perch. i do have very low perches because i have bigger breeds but the top perch is a good 4 ft up.

am i doing all i can do? i can't find an injury and she looks like she needs rest so after i tried to hand feed her i decided to let her rest to see if shell recoup enough strength to try eating.

Can you post pictures of her stance, is there any chance she is egg bound? Have you checked the bottoms of her feet for injury? Sorry for all the questions, just want to figure this out.

i do not have access to a camera till later tonight. she won't stand right now i think she is dieing, all she'll do is lay on her side with her head curled i see the chest move a bit so she's breathing and when i try to drop some water on the beak she opens her eyes and some times gives her head a shake. she's never laid an egg she is a runt and has been slow to develop. none of her sisters has laid an egg yet either. i gently cleaned her feet to take a look they do not seem to have any injury on them.

i kind of am stuck right now. i dont want to handle her anymore till she is at least moving a bit. should i just leave her lay and try to give her some drops of save a chick every now and then? i love this little girl we have a big bond she has given me scares ever since a chickk always been a runt and weaker then the rest. every one of my chickens is protective over her. they even let her eat and drink first and she's not even the top of the order. i just have a special place in my heart for her. i really hope she pulls through ive never seen her like this before.

It's always our favorites that causes such a worry. It does sound like she hurt herself coming off the roost. She may have landed wrong or if she was on this higher roost, hit the lower on on her way down.

Keep her warm & in a dark room ... Best not to handle her anymore than you must, my concern is internal injuries if she was on the higher roost & hit the lower or wall or landed hard on the ground. What do you have on the floor/ground for bedding?

You can wet some feed, see if she'll eat that. One way to get liquids in her, or offer scrambled eggs or boiled egg yolk again wet (mash). You can try dipping her beak (lightly) in a drink, or drop some at the corner of her mouth but not down her beak. If she's not interested, best to let her rest.

When you can please post a picture of her & the area you found her. Do you know if she was on the higher or lower roost? Sorry you're having to go through this :hugs

Tiny is gone, i tried to see if i could get some more drops of water in her couldn't reach by her beak so i attempted to move her but rigamortis had already set in tiny is dead. i can't seem to stop myself from crying this is my first lose and she was a very special girl. i just feel like i could of done something to prevent this

So sorry for your loss of Tiny. Since she was always a little sickly, she may have had something unknown going on all that time with a bad heart or other organ failure. If you still have the body, you can keep it refrigerated (not frozen,) and send or take it to your state vet for a necropsy. Chickens can suffer from all sorts of diseases, such as coccidiosis, Mareks, and heart or kidney problems. Usually a necropsy will identify the problem. Here is a link to contact your state vet:
