anything you wish you knew before getting geese?

The plan is to run them with the ducks among the fruit trees, which I've learned need to be taped so the geese don't eat the bark.

I'm getting runner ducks, too!

How much you can love poultry.

After having multitudes of chickens (40-50), we started out with one gosling. This was upped to five soon after. Now, we're getting 10 this spring, plus whatever I hatch out, plus possibly some more females. They are my loves, and I can't imagine my life without them. They all have their own personalities and likes/dislikes.. They're more like dogs than chickens, in my opinion.

Oh yeah.. And they smell, bite HARD, and act like brats when they don't get their way. Whatever, they own me anyways.

I did not know how busy they are...and smart...nosey...I could not believe my eyes last summer when Barney was shaking the peach tree and getting fruit for the gang...and then he would grab the grape vines and pull them down so the ducks and the other geese could have the leaves AND the grapes...Barney is the tallest so he does the high harvesting work...that is Barney in the middle of the flock as they stampede through the gate into the secondary yard...love them all...

I'm planning to get my first geese this spring too. Maybe 4 or 5. Or 10. I have a friend who wants to eat some geese, but I'm not sure I'll be able to kill them. I can process the chickens no problem, did the turkeys with some qualms (I got attached), haven't processed any of the pekins I got last spring for that purpose, as I find the ducks to be too cute, so I have serious doubts that I could kill any geese. But I need more pets anyway...

The main thing I learned is that geese are like Pringles " you can't have just one!!" I have 8 in the yard, 12 in the incubator and 8 to be shipped from Ideal the first week of March!!!!

I bought two on a lark......I now have 6 and 3 in the incubator. Looking for more eggs and waiting to buy some babies. I think they are the most entertaining things EVER!!!!! love em.

HOW THEY TURNED MY YARD INTO GREEN SLOP IN 3 DAYS

I did love them though... very sweet. They sang to me and followed me EVERYWHERE. While I weeded the garden on my knees, they sunbathed two feet from me... and inched closer everytime I moved... just wasn't worth the green slop.

When I have more acreage, I will get some more sebastababies
