Hi there

We have 'ended' up with 4 very adorable friendly chicks which we are doing our best to maintain (hopefully not doing too bad a job)!! We have no idea what they are, sex or age. We rescued them from some kids at a fair!! I have taken a few pictures and would be eternally grateful if anyone could shed some light on them!! We have now had them almost 3 weeks so we know they are over 3 weeks. The kids said they were still with their mother when they bought them and she was a black hen. I am assuming they are hybrids of some type.

Stripe is the biggest here at the front, popcorn is the other flecked one in the middle, Lucky is the one with the white stripe and poor wee Roast is the one at the back.

Stripe on his/her own.

The biggest chick has a very small tail so far, while the 2 middle chicks have longer tails and Roast the smallest has a very small tail so far!! I have no idea if this helps in identifying or sexing.

Thanks in advance everyone

My goodness! I don't know what they are but they're adorable! I'd say they are mutts of some sort but hopefully this will bump you and someone who knows a bit more will come along and shed some light on this for you

They sure are cute

The black and white ones look a lot like my Cuckoo Marans, although mine are mixed. The one by himself looks like my Ike who is a boy. He too, has a larger comb and stuby tail! I wonder if the one with the white stripe will keep it as it gets older! Congrads and glad you saved them!

Pics of their combs would be easiest to tell. But to me, the one that you call Stripe looks like a roo, the rest I can't tell.

Thank you for the responses....I will photograph them individually tomorrow and upload better pics...I got too excited today and wanted the pictures up a.s.a.p!!! typical female as my hubby would say...no patience!!

I am just hoping they aren't all roo's!! But we don't mind one

Hi, I agree totally adorable, lovely looking chicks. I'm afraid I can't help with the breed but they look like they are 5/6 weeks. Stripe looks like a boy too as he's has a bigger more pink comb than the others. They look very healthy so your doing a superb job! Good for you on saving them :)

I agree with tho others...Stripe looks like a little boy. Popcorn has some pretty thick legs, too, which could indicate roo, but not necessarily. Please post some more pictures as they grow. the people on here are so helpful! as for the breed, I would venture to guess a lovely little flock of mixed barnyard cuties!

If they are Marans they look like my girls... they are just a giant breed in general. Mine have small combs, but HUGE legs. I saw a Maran rooster the other day and they are usually more white than black... he was HUGE

Thanks once again everyone.....I have posted new pictures....in a new posting!! I will get the hang of this site!! So please take a peek at them as I think they show more of each individual chicky and your knowledge and expertise is a godsend to us novice chicken minders!!
