Roosters are difficult whether you start with them or add them later. They are worth it, but they are a challenge. I would recommend reading through some of the articles on roosters before you decide to get one.Ohhhhh that sounds reasonable! Will I have any problem later on introducing a rooster with the girls once I decide to?
Ok I definitely don’t want to regret it if it to much on me. So I’ll do research on them before making that attempt. I have 3&1/2 acr land they can free range. It’s not a lot but maybe in future I will be able to purchase surrounding land around me that isn’t up for sale. But I will need to be very careful of land and sky predators! So before purchasing we need a Fort Knox for our future chickens .Roosters are difficult whether you start with them or add them later. They are worth it, but they are a challenge. How many chickens do you want to have? I think I read 4-6, which would mean you will eventually have 8-12.Ok I definitely don’t want to regret it if it to much on me. But not sure where to place the coops yet
Ohhh wooow! That sounds reasonable to me.. I been hearing a lot of issues with loosing chickens to predators! Thank you for the warning! I actually was searching around for coop designs and how to protect your flock.. I did like the sound of the above ground coop on stilts of cement and then enclosing all that as well. Your right! A lot indeed to think about! I will focus my attention on the how to constructions of the coops and investigate everything about it ! Thanks for the advice! Love learning! How many chickens do you want to have? I think I read 4-6, which would mean you will eventually have 8-12.3 1/2 acres is definitely enough free range area for them. We have 5 acres, but too many predators to free range, so my 12 are kept in a 4000 SF run, so what is that 1/10 of an acre? And they have plenty of room. I hope you will also visit the coop design forum before you build a coop. So many good ideas and great advice there! If I had it to do over, I would read everything I could on this site before doing anything with chickens. Instead, I learned everything the hard way, so I just call it one grand experiment after another around here.
We are only making suggestions to save you some of the heartache we have experienced. EG: too small of a coop will end up with squabbling chickens and a lot of injuries. So, guess what, I have 4 coops now.
