Apple Cider vinegar.

I have read several posts here from people who use apple cider vinegar for their ducks. One warning I have seen is that since it is acidic, not to use it with galvanized metal containers, because that can accelerate metals leaching into the water.

I use a three gallon plastic waterer right now so as not to be concerned about leaching, and plan to use a three or four gallon stainless steel mixing bowl outdoors in winter, so I can set it on a heater to keep it from freezing.

May I ask how it helps the chickens? I understand it is a tonic for ducks. I use vinegar water to wipe down the brooder, because it kills bacteria (at least, that is my understanding - I haven't run a test with petri dishes and agar agar. . . .

Thnaks for the info. My flock all have plastic containers so that will be fine. ACV helps chickens with its properties for sour crop, worming, and I was looking on the " feeding and watering" section and there are lots of threads all about ACV. Hope this helps. Beryl

Yeah, ACV is hell on metal waterers, causes them to get rusty. Which is why my poultry doesn't get it any more, since the one plastic container I have leaks unless it's on an absolutely level surface, which I don't have many of. I have experimented on feeding it to goats at breeding time to insure more female offspring, and got 80% female kids.

I use it when I have a duck that seems a little "off". By that I mean listless, not eating, refusing treats... You know how ducks are. If they refuse treats there is something WRONG!

I add raw ACV to their water bowl and they perk back up every time. It's like a tonic I guess.

Can you put this stuff in a plastic kiddie pool? Is it still ok to eat the eggs while they are on this? I am assuming its a natural dewormer?

You would have to use a ton in a pool. You need the ACV with mothers it, not the filtered kind. You add it to a water bucket, bowl or the like. It is fine to eat the eggs when they drink ACV in their water.
