OK-I am a newbie, designing my coop and planning as we speak. I have been reading through various posts, and learning about all of the various food options for chickens. The idea of cooking up a little warm bowl of oatmeal, raisins and core-less apples for my (soon to be met) ladies is so freaking cute!!!!!!!!! Or a nice cool mash of plain yogurt, cooked brown rice and frozen peas !!!I can't wait to get started!
I hadn't even thought of all of the ways I could spoil them...We should start a chicken cook book (not at all like most other cook books regarding chickens:rolleyes:).
This is going to be great!!!!!.

What a great site this is.

(I just read back over this, and I think I might just be a little excited.

Congrats on getting started with chickens!! I know exactly what you mean--bowls of warm oatmeal with yogurt or a rice with peas and other goodies! My chickens frequently get stuff that looks good enough to put on the dinner table!! LOL! Well, except for the mealworms and crickets that I pick up at the local PetSmart.

My PetSmart trips are funny. Everyone else is in there buying all this cutesy stuff for the dogs or cats....a few into lizards or other exotic reptiles and then there's me. Buying "goodies" for my chickens!

People often look at me a little weird. But, not as weird as when I ask for a go-box at a restaurant for what looks like only a spoonful or two of scraps. I actually scrape up every little thing left on the plates to take home for the chickens! For the most part, if we can eat, then they can, too! We do, of course, leave out the really salty, sugary or fatty stuff.
