The chickens actually don’t smell of garlic but if you get some of the spray on yourself you just have to wash it off really well. @aart what do you use to treat/prevent mites on your chickens?

I can smell it, and find it nauseating, it doesn't wash off easily.
Takes 2-3 days for the smell to wear off after harvesting garlic.
I don't use preventatives, have not had mites, but treated lice with permethrin.

I love garlic! It stays in my house and I eat it. NONE for the chickens!
I recently saw a dog who had ticks, Lyme and Anaplasma, and was using a natural flea/ tick product. She smelled great, does that help?

Garlic is great for keeping ticks, fleas, chiggers, mosquitos away/off. If you consume enough of it it will be eliminated via the pores....I guess that's ok, if you don't mind smelling like garlic.

I don't know about birds. Garlic in quantity is toxic to dogs and probably cats. Spraying them with garlic in water? Smelly, until it's all licked off. 'Natural' is not the same as 'safe'!

There is necropsy report on the web about a conure that was force fed cloves of garlic that you might find interesting. I'll see if I can find it.
