I just knew it !!!! Today was my lucky day !!!!!!!! WOOHOO we got our first egg. And what a surprise.... I thought for sure that one of my BR or Aussies would be first since they are bright red in the face and making lots of noises and roaming the nesting boxes. BUT one of my EE, Toffee, lay a beautiful light blue/turquoise egg. It is the most beautiful, perfect egg EVER

I always thought that she is not the brightest out of the bunch, always the last one to go in the coop, kind of independent roaming alone and pretty low, if not lowest, in the pecking order. But boy, oh boy, she lays a pretty egg!!!!!!! They are all 19 weeks and 5 days (hatched April 12) and from Cackle Hatchery.

The color looks a lot better but the flash or lighting makes it seem almost white.....

lb2duncan I sure hope you're right! I can't wait anymore I'm too excited! Congrats to everyone whose hens love them and are laying for them!

I got another egg today !!!!!!!!! One of my Black Aussies was taking an hour doing the egg song, trying to build a nest on the poop board (what???) and hopping from roosting bar to roosting bar. Finally she did lay a nice small brown egg in the corner on the ground in the pine shavings. Cracked it right in the pan, still warm ...... mmmh, mmmh, mmmh!!!

Yay!! Congrats GermanChick!!

As I write this the girls are making a racket...everyone seems to get involved in the singing when Buffy lays an egg...and it's been going on for an hour. I hope they all start laying soon so that I can collect a dozen to give to the closest neighbor for putting up (so far) with the noise!

You know what this reminds me of? Those due date clubs I was in when I was having my human babies! I was in the first half to go with most of my kids though, so this bites.

So. I got impatient and bought an adult hen, and she give me an egg every other day or so. One of my hens was hatched the week before Easter, and while her face is getting red, her body still seems fairly small and streamlined, so I don't expect anything from her soon. The remaining 5 were hatched 4/26 or so. My SLW looks sooooooooo ready. My four EE's combs are slightly reddish, but more pink than anything.

My wait is over. Got the first egg from my Columbian Wyandottes today!! Of course DH was replacing the people door on the coop & she was bawking & sitting for about an hour & then left. When I went to feed them scratch, I saw her egg laying in the run! Glad DH is done making a sliding pop door & making a new outside door for my 17 yo coop, now the girls can get down to business. My birds were hatched 4/12.
