April 2023 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Got my bbs marans this morning and into the incubator they went with two stacked (my only two that are viable) pulled 10 today :(
Always a bright side - the girl who sold me them was really nice and we chatted for about 20 minutes about chickens. I can also get some free cow manure from her for my garden and the eggs were only $30.
Older chickens (8 weeks old) are officially in the coop as of yesterday and are living their their best life.

So had to make a quick put together brooder because its getting crowded kinda in the incubator. Also loud.

I have the producer's pride brood plate, they are quiet under it but it seams a little hot. Can't leave my hand or fingers in contact with it long? The chicks arnt touching it so I feel it's ok for now. I'll be moving them to Star asap.

LOVE the topknot bird

Apparently I have a late addition to the April hatch-a-long. I genuinely thought one of my game hens was lost to a predator because she’s been missing for two weeks, and then, yesterday and the day before, I saw broody poops around the community watering hole and got my hopes up. I found her today. Just casually “sitting” on 25 😱🤦🏼‍♀️ eggs on my brother in law’s boat in our backyard. Can you say redneck?
I would candle them tonight, but frankly, I’m scared of her. I keep games because they’re pretty birds, great foragers, and good mothers. The caveat is that they’re straight up MEAN. She tried to flog my phone when I took this picture lol.
