April 2023 Hatch-A-Long

Pics
Last of my April hatcher should be going into lockdown in a day. I don't have my hopes up, some don't look good at all...

April 2023 has been the WORST month of the year! And that includes me freezing my b*** off in -50 weather with heaters that could not supply enough. Everything in my trailer froze. Spent two days curled up in bed with my dog as a heat source!
Ugh that is really tough! It can only get better from here though right? ❤️

If they hatch! I’m hoping to get a few at least. But I hope I have now figured out how to use this incubator and that things will go better for my May hatch. We are going to have a great hatch next month right? 🤞
I suppose I need to join a May hatch along as well since I just set 12 new eggs!
Who knows what I’m in for with my weird staggered hatch in my tiny incubator lol

When the hurricane hit here last fall it felt like absolute chaos! My mother had passed the week before and we were without power for a week (on a well but thankfully warm temps). Lost thousands of dollars of food in the freezer and my poor fathers house and cottage was water damaged windows blown in etc on top of everything. Life sure throws us some nasty curveballs!

Oh geez, I'm so sorry to hear that. What horrible things to go through all at once! It never rains, it pours, right?

Noooo! It it still cold there? Ugh I hope things start looking up!

Yeah, back to subfreezing (barely) at night and cool days. Next week is supposed to warm up again.

Now for the nail biting to really begin! I locked down yesterday and today is only day 19 but three and four decided they wanted Out and have started their escape. No sign of pipping from the others but I'm not too worried since they're a bit ahead of the game.

After going into lockdown Monday night, this morning I have my first internal pip after over 24 hours of them sitting there in the 'bator pretending to be little oval shaped rocks.

Hopefully I'll be seeing an external pip sometime today but now the real waiting begins cause no more sneaking a peek with my candling flashlight to see what those babies are up to.

Today is days 19/20 given that I started the incubator a little after noon. I've had bantams hatch as early as day 19 but these little ones seem to be in no hurry to check out the outside world.

@Canadian Wind, I'm so sorry to hear that you are battling nasty cold. Years ago DH and I owned a park RV that was on some land that we owned when we first came to Missouri. Previous owner assured us that they had no problems with freezing. We got in one winter night to find everything froze solid. We set up heaters and went to check out our hunting cabin thinking that it would take a while to thaw everything out.

Came back 30 minutes later to find over an inch of water everywhere. What a mess. I feel for you and what you are dealing with. Hang in there. It will get better.:hugs

Wishing everyone with pips and zips a GREAT hatching!
