Sweet! I would love to do this I have 5 RIR hens and meet all the requirements! I"m getting roughly 2 doz eggs a week right now, but three of my hens just started laying- and I have a bunch in the brooder also!

I would love to participate, too! I have about 30 hens and am getting approximately 7 dozen or so eggs a week - approximately 18 a day, give or take. All of my girls and guys have names and are well loved. I'm not sure what "true backyard chickens" means, but mine are in the back yard, front yard, side yard, and where ever else they decide to go, being cooped at night.

Dark Brahmas - Frick and Frack.
Light Brahmas - Domino, Henny, and Jazzy.
Black Copper Marans - Bucky and Penny.
Buff Brahma - China.
Jersey Giants - Ebony and Big Bertha.
Mixed Brahmas - Maria and Hoppy.
Serama - Juliet.
Banty - Chrissie.
Cochins - Audrey and Patches.

Roos - Brahmas - Rocky, Casey, Danny, Rowdy, Glory, and Romeo (serama).

I'm sure I've left some out - I'll have to go look!

I'm all for it!

I'm up to 19 chickens now, and will soon have plenty of eggs!

What all is involved with being a zone leader, besides picking up eggs and inspection? Do you get paid for your gas mileage? Do you have to keep track of whose eggs come from where for the restaurant/company etc.? How do the state laws play into this? FL has strict laws on how eggs should be washed and sold unless you get some sort of permit from what I've read...

Please sign me up.

We currently have 4 LF hens laying (1 doz. eggs every 3 days)

When summer hits, we will have approx. 46 LF hens laying.

We have 2 coops ( 1 for banties and 1 for the big girls.)

We meet all the requirements for this endeavor.

Thank you BYC!

I have WHAT in my yard? :

This is an awesome program and congratulations to BYC for pulling this off!! Good for you.

We won't join, for a couple of reasons. I get between $3 and $3.50 a dozen now, and I don't wash my eggs until the next day usually.... Sometimes I wash them all on the weekend. Is that bad??

But, if we expand our flock we may reconsider, is there a time when this entry possibility will be closed??

If it is, I'm in trouble too. I don't wash mine at all until I use them. I leave the bloom right on 'til it's there time.

I suppose if I were selling or something, I might wash them. But I have explained why I don't wash them to the limited number of folks that get them now.

PS... I think this program is a wonderful idea. I hope there is enough interest and enough folks to make it work.

I personally think that kids can get by on a lot less food than they consume... I would reinvest the first egg monies you get and buy MORE chickens just to be sure you have the maximum 10 dozen eggs every 2 weeks. Let those kids be a little hungry for a couple more months. Consider it your contribution to helping out an already obese nation(myself included). Soon you'll be up to the maximum of 10 dozen eggs... just think of all the groceries you'll be able to buy with an extra $14.85 a week, the fine educations you'll be able to afford all 5 kids, and the overall improvement of your everyday lifestyle.
