It's an interesting list, but I'm not altogether certain how fitting some of the names are, or how they meet the criteria. Aslan is a strong, heroic male figure, so that is great, but he's also a lion so I'm not sure how that fits the black bird thing. I do like Raven, or Poe; I had been thinking of Othello, so glad that made the list. Darkling is not actually from the Dylan Thomas poem, even though it could be a good black rooster name, the first references that come to mind are more sci-fi than literary. I'm not sure Heathcliff, Shylock or Grendel would be seen in a favorable light? Perhaps I should have specified an "affectionate" name for a black male rooster.@TudyBOT Great! Here are ten literary names that would be appropriate for a black male bird:
1. Heathcliff (from "Wuthering Heights" by Emily Bronte)
2. Poe (after American writer Edgar Allan Poe)
3. Salem (after the setting of "The Crucible" by Arthur Miller)
4. Aslan (from "The Chronicles of Narnia" by C. S. Lewis)
5. Midnight (a fitting name for a black bird!)
6. Darkling (from the poem "Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night" by Dylan Thomas)
7. Shylock (from "The Merchant of Venice" by William Shakespeare)
8. Othello (from the play of the same name by William Shakespeare)
9. Grendel (from the epic poem "Beowulf")
10. Blackwood (after the American author Algernon Blackwood)
These names are all inspired by literary works and characters, and could be fitting for a black Australorp rooster. I hope this helps!
