I know that this is your project & you've worked hard to hatch them. It's hard to help others understand that the babies need to be treated with care & kept warm for a while, they also need to sleep a lot when they want. So sounds like you're paying attention to that. How can you get bored with them, when they will joyfully greet you every day when you come to feed them & they will always remember you, especially if you take good care of them. Sure it's a chore & responsibility taking care of poultry, but they are rewarding friends to the end. We had 4 ducks years ago & they were very funny. I remember how they would often walk in a line, not like chickens that are all over the place. I bet you're thrilled to have them.

Day 23-

5 black & 3 yellow in the brooder
2 black in the incubator, 2 large pips,
11 eggs to go.

Temp 100, Humidity 70%.
I have to go to work so will check again when I get home. DH made up a song for the chickies......to sing while I am gone.....
"broke 16 eggs what do I get another day older and deeper in debt," cracked 16 eggs ate the corn and Nana don't care!....."
all because I said I would worry about them while we are done to work. i threatened to stay home if he continued....lol

We're already working on designing our next new and improved bator! This one was a 10 gal aquarium with a lightbulb and dimmer switch for the heat...very temperamental. So I am amazed to end up with 4 little fuzzybutts! I never really thought it would work at all.

Here's what we started with:
3 White Lehghorn
3 RIR
2 EE
all from our EE Roo.

Made it to lockdown with 3 WL & 3 RIR (found out today 1 was a dud)
EE eggs were beginning to smell and candled clear before lockdown.

The chicks were due to hatch on Tuesday 4-6, but didn't start pipping til Thursday.
All 3 white ones hatched...the last one pipped late last night and needed a little assistance this afternoon, but its doing ok now.
1 RIR hatched...and 1 was fully formed but died in the shell (before the internal pip - I think) The other one was too dark to see anything but the air sac before lockdown so I left it in. It ended up being an egg full of smelly goo when I opened it today. YUCK!

I'll try to add some pics in a little bit.

Just curious.....Does anyone know if I call these chicks mutts or are they EE's because the roo is an EE?

Congrats and good luck to all the other April hatchers!
