FYI the incu is full of action and it looks like the X's have it. The X's being the eggs stored up side down. I do believe the egg carton helped in the hatch as chicks seem to zip all the way around the egg before escaping. Though I think next time I will cut the carton a little lower.
I'll be calling it tomorrow evening unless the eggs that have not started to pip do. So far there are 4 of 23 that have not. The best so far even at this count. 3 chicks are zipped all the way around and not out yet and 3 are pipping but as you know the ones pipping may escape before the ones zipped all the way around. I would definitely recommend trying the egg carton lockdown. Leave only 1/3 to 1/4 of the carton.

All the best

I have one baby out (mix) and several pips.

Hey Wolftracks! If you find there is a way to 'early sex' Marans, please share! I understand your frustration. I have 6 gorgeous 4 week old Silver Lakenvelders here and the best I can tell [looking at combs] they are all roos!

Anyone that can help w/Lakenvelder sexing, please jump in!

I've got turkey poults a hatchin! I have 1 silly broody turkey who made a nest in the corner of my back porch by the sliding glass window that goes to my bedroom. We slept with the windows open last night and I woke up to lots of little chirps at 5 this morning...babies chirping and momma clucking to them! So cute!

Putting on Nurse Practitioner cap here! NOTHING is worth loss of health! Nature culls those that should not live. You have to take that in stride! Do your best. If your health fails, then you can't give your peeps their best care! Offer him the use of your bator. Let HIM experience the joys/sorrows of hatching!

Be HIS mentor, and both do your best!

Good luck! PS: Yes, you CAN tell him 'no'. If your health is at stake, you MUST!

He will/should understand.
