speaking of LG still air- I had asked this question on my own post and got no answers. What kind of fan can I put in it? I have heard you can use computer fans which are cheap. Is this true and if so how would you go about wiring it up? I'm not that big a fan of my LG. I had 2 crappy hatches in the fall and am currently trying number 3. As my above post says it is going fairly well so far but I am looking to upgrade my LG a little. I ordered a turner (currently doing it by hand) and am looking into a fan of some kind. I really do not want to spend as much as Illia. I'm afraid the same thing would happen to me and it would be a waste of money. So any cheap ideas that would work would be greatly appreciated.

Candled our eggs this weekend!!! Saw something in 16 of the eggs!!! We are totally excited, that is more than we expected.

Can't wait to see if any of them hatch.... Our temps are holding steady at about 38*C in our LG. We have found an old towel thrown over the unit at night seems to work better than messing with the thermostat for keeping the temps steady. Still have no idea about the humididty. I don't see condensation on the glass, and haven't added any more water since day 1. I hope it isn't too high, its been wet and rainy around here lately.

Well, I just learned I am getting my Muscovy eggs sooner than I thought! I was wondering what on earth to do, maybe toss the free chicken eggs I had started in favor of the paid for eggs, though I didn't like that idea at all. Looked on craigslist and found someone near me selling a used bator, so I picked it up today. Now to haunt the PO for the next couple days

I finally closed off both vents and put a weight on top to keep it sealed. The temps vary still, but the swings are worse if I meddle with the control so I just keep my hands off it and hope these babies make it to lockdown!

So far, 1 of the 2 Sebastapol goose eggs has shown development, but it's still early for those.

3 of 15 Brahma mix eggs are questionable, the rest have what seems to be good development, though detail was limited when candled on day 8 (brown eggs, on the dark side). Lockdown is this weekend! I've tried to leave them alone so have only candled twice. That was hard to do, I'm so proud I didn't obsessively candle this bunch!

In my hova-bator, only 5 out of 42 eggs were clear or questionable. The ones that weren't actually clear I left for recandling on day 14 (tomorrow). I didn't see blood rings, though, just no obvious embryonic movement, though they were pretty dark. All had veins. That bator has my Dorkings (1/13 was clear day 7) which are almost white eggs and I can see EVERYTHING, 15 Australorps and 14 Brahmas.

If these babies hatch at this rate, I'm going to have over 50 new babies in the house next week! Yikes!

Day 5
All is going good with these 7 eggs, I'm not quite sure what they're going to be, I got them from a friend to satisfy my broody there's a Maran x ? Three green eggs and then a either pink or brown can't tell really they're all very light, I'm not sure if they're EE Xs or araucana Xs-most likely EE Xs then two brown eggs, I'm gonna have to wait to find out what these little fuzzies are gonna be, hopefully I get a good hatch!

Mine will be hatching on april 16... hopefully!

I have a variety of pure silkies in a pen with cuckoo silkies, lav, buff, white, black, light blue, dark blue, and calico silkies also

but I have a quick question....

My incubator is having some problems, The tempature keeps fluctuating! It's only the third and now it ranges from about 101.7-98.3, but before it was way out of wack! It went from 94 to 105! Those were only tthe first two days though... also the humidity is horrible, at 40%, we put in sponges and filled the whole tray and even added some paper towels, but it just got up to 40%. What can I do, and will the chicks be okay? I'm soooooo super worried..............

I pre heated the incubator three days before they got here, then I let them sit for 24 hrs and had to put them in soon, it just wouldn't get to the right temp/humidity. If I ever get eggs again I will be sure to heat it up like 1 week at least in advance, but this is my first time.

Re-candled the eggs a little while ago. Out of the original 13 turkey eggs (2 were smashed by my one son yesterday) we have 7 that at looking good. So we have 4 that look to be bad.

Of the original 7 Muscovy eggs, (we lost 1 to the son smashing). We have 2 that are looking very good, and 4 that are questionable. I will recheck them again Next Sunday to see if any progress has been made.

I want to join too. I just got my eggs from Julie at Gabbard Farms today 4 blue Ameraucana, 3 wheaten Penedesenca, 3 Golden Cuckoo Marans, and 7 porcelain d'uccle I will bet set tonight. I didn't have any cracked or broken eggs. She shipped them Saturday evening and I got them this evening. Hova-bator was cleaned and ready to go. I have a question......I bought one of those repitle hydrometers does anyone have any experience with them? I haven't put any water in my bator and the hydrometer is ready 34% could that be right? I have it in the basement and it has been raining for the past few days. What do you all think?
