Frankly, this is the first hatch that I've actually been able to witness. My first was a disaster (look up on my older posts) and I was an idiot. This time, with BYC help, I'm doing things pretty darn well. I feel like a new mom, really I do!

Now, what does one do when the new baby keeps lying all over the thermometer/hygrometer and I can't keep track of things?

Maybe she's trying to tell me to stop staring at the incubator and just let things happen!

I remember when my last chicks did that - They slept on the hygrometer. My sister asks me. "what's the humidity?" I laughed and said "sleeping chick percent. . . "

You're fine though.

Beckymom, that is absolutely amazing.. You're right, no one ever speaks about how the hatched chicks try to encourage the others like that.. Most of the time, you only hear about the peeping... I can't wait to go through this.. As for the humidity, I'm not sure but if most of them are already pipped and zipping, i don't think the higher humidity would hurt them.. A lot of people don't do a "dry" hatch so their humidity is higher through the entire incubation and still get a good hatch.. If you can get the humidity down a bit, i would say go for it.. But if not, I really wouldn't freak out too much.. The humidity from what i understand goes up when the chicks start to hatch anyway because they are all wet...

I've held off joining in on this post until I was sure I would actualy have a hatch. My March hatch ended up with zero chick's but I started up again. I currently have 25 Texas A&M Quail in lock down when I candled them before lock down last night and most look good but they are so tiny and dark it's hard to tell. I'm still new so I just left them all in there as I'm not sure I completely know what I'm looking for. I also have 3 Modern Game Bantam egg's due to hatch on Sunday when I candled them last night they were all moving right along so I'm keeping my finger's crossed this will be a good hatch!!!! Thanks for everyone's post I learn so much on here.

today is day 21 for me, i thought i saw one of the eggs wiggle
big_smile.png
so of course i got out the flashlight and shined it in the incubator to see if i really saw it move or if it was just shadows moving in the room. and of course the little bugger wouldn't move again, so i put the flashlight down and stared at the egg some more. after a few minutes with nothing i walked away
sad.png
then the next time i walked by i looked in and swear that the egg moved again, so... same thing as before the egg wont move if i'm looking

this waiting is driving me insane i do believe. keeping my fingers crossed that its not just my imagination and the eggs might actually hatch for me. good luck everyone, i'll keep ya posted.

Gosh, I'm so with you! My eggs in cartons in the other incubator are really bugging me because I can't tell if they are moving! At least the ones on their sides and loose are more obvious! LOL!

Are you also hallucinating peeping? That was really pushing me over the brink earlier. Now I have tons of chirping and cheeping and peeping from both incubators and I'm soooo happy!

well today the hatcher shot up to 105
he.gif
so I am thinking they may not make it,

I switched the tops, (incubator one top regulates better and has the fan) so the hatcher should be back on temp within the hour.

Humidity seemed to stay good at 65% so switching tops only took about a second, as they were both still running and beside each other. April 8 we are hoping for a good hatch.

Went to town and came home to two pips. It's early though. ONly day 18 if ya count it that way. I put them in during late evening so I counted the next day as day 1. If you go the other way it's day 19. Either way they are a bit early. Congrats beckysmom. They are cute. I love the way they help each other. It's so sweet.

for my chickies.

Good luck pandora.. hope everything turns out ok for you.

Why doesn't staring at the eggs make them unzip faster?
tongue.gif

Zip a little, rest a little, cheep a little, zip a little.

Stare, stare, stare, stare.
ep.gif

Zip, rest, cheep, zip.

Why don't we call it UNzipping? since they are opening the egg, not closing it?

The hatch-watching mind doth wander.....
