My hen has us in for April hatchlings! She got serious about being broody on the 1st, I hope to see some peeps next week.

Well, I've collected 8 more eggs that are going to the guy with the incubator today! He will set all the eggs tonight and I am hoping to have chicks by the first week of May.

My broody is still sitting on 3, while my second broody is trying to steal them from her. So I am going out today with 2 fake eggs from my daughter's kitchen set and letting the second brood have those. That way if we get a hatch from the incubator guy, then I can sneak the chicks under mama at night.

Wish me luck, going to meet him around 1 or 2.

Good luck & good hatching Vibes All ...
I have 30 eggs in and they should hatch April 29th, I will candle on Day 10.....

Those chickies are lovely. Congrats! I forgot are those LF (Standard sized) or Bantam Favs?

Standards, they are smaller then the mixed breeds that hatched with them but they are standards. I have 7 now, another hatched over night.

Oh, that's curious! Are there holes big enough for a snake or rodent? If not then for sure, it's her. The hens seem to know a lot about what's going on with the eggs & can sort them. Hope you figure it out. Even better, happy hatching!

I had 4 standards this year & really liked them; their large beards were lovely & they layed well. They found a good home, after I realized that they would not fit well into all of my numerous banty nest boxes. Have fun with your chickies!

Good luck with all of that. I use those plastic Easter eggs for my nests, especially when I'm trying to stimulate egg laying or teach young hens where to lay. Just super glue the 2 ends together as not to let them open & give any "breaking eggs" ideas),

Here's my update on my Marans eggs that I set on Friday, 4/9/10. All 7 appear to be developing although the darkest ones are really challenging to candle. Egg #5 is the lightest egg in this batch and these candling pictures are of that egg.

CANDLING PICS
Incubation, DAY 5: (I Photoshopped the heck out of these so that the veining could be seen better)

I am so sad that I am putting up my incubator. I miss the anticipation.. but I can't have any more babies. and mine are mixed breeds so not worth selling... I have alot of eggs that I guess I will pitch. Been saving them in case these didnt hatch but I got 100% of the ones that went to lockdown.
