I've had 6 kids.............have 21 grandchildren and I'm nervous about chicken eggs! I was excited about every one of those kids, but human babies are too unpredictable. Can be very early which you try not to think about and weeks late.
With chicks I know I have 8DAYS ............ummm maybe 10 if they're late.

13 and under are hard for me. I want results and it's like a tease. Just under 1/2 way. Torturous isn't it? Good luck on your hatch.

This morning, 5:00 am, I had 38 chicks. I think. It's so hard to count them, especially on one incubator where the window is fogged.
And today is Day 21. The hatching percentage of eggs in lockdown to chicks is 50%. I'm hoping it goes up. I planned this hatch so it would happen over the weekend when I was at home. So much for planning.

Good hatching vibes to all!

The S.O woke up 25 minutes ago, turned a light on and the power went out for a good 10 minutes. I threw blankets over the bator and we were about to take them down the road to plug them in when it came back on. Temp has dropped to 90. How bad is this???

I now have 5 pips and one hatch!!

Still awaiting some Marans to pip as well as my one and only Polish chick.

Edit: Here's my first baby of the hatch! It also came from one of the four bluest eggs.

Consider that the broody hen will get off of the nests for food & water, etc. So, 90 degrees for 25 min is no problem. Regarding prior post: The chick can cheep or peep in the egg when they have done their internal pip & are beginning to breath air. That can happen a day or two or so prior to pipping the egg shell. Sorry I've never timed that. Happy hatching!
