Getting ready to set a dozen silkie eggs, and 2 dozen mixed breeds!!!!!! Was all ready to set them todat, LG had been holding temps great for 4 days. Then came home from gettin' the eggs and it was down to under 50*F

I'm pretty sure someone messed with it, but nobody came clean. So waiting until tomorrow after temps are good and stable again.

This time I got a hygrometer!

I calibrated it this week, and it is pretty accurate. So going to try again.

Our 6 fuzzies from our first hatch are doing well!!!!

Congrats to all, and good hatching vibes to those still waiting.

Well, my hatch is done - 65 chicks out of 77 that went into lockdown. I was cleaning up one incubator - the other was still on just in case any of the few eggs left were late hatching.
I was putting the spent shells into the compost and the egg cartons by the wood stove for burning, when I picked up a "shell" that was awfully heavy. Lo and behold there is a chick in it and it, half zipped! I completed the zip to see if it was still alive, and it's little mouth was gasping. Incredible, as it had been sitting in the egg carton by the sink all night covered with spent shells. I hurried it to the working incubator, saying to myself, "Well, if that survives and is healthy, it'll be a miracle. I should just cull it now, half dead as it is." But there is a part of me always rooting for the underdog, so I let it be.

This morning, it was walking around and chirping!

I am constantly amazed at the resiliency of life! So, now I have 66 chicks.

I have bought eggs from Julie of Gabbard Farms myself and also had someone make a comment that she only had EE eggs. So I just sent her an email and asked her about her birds as I thought first hand information would be best. Here is her reply:

Hello Patty.... Our Blue Ameraucana and Black Ameraucana are pure Ameraucana and originated from Lisa Cree's lines as well as Mason Creek Farms..They are excellent quality... We also have pure bred Wheaten Ameraucana which are excellent quality.....
Our EE's originate from hatchery stock and our current flocks consist of males from our Pure Ameraucana culls over EE females..... thanks!~

Once again, yes they are "soooo cute." Maybe try putting the chicks down on a layer of the waffle-like shelf liner, they get very good footing on it & it helps avoid splayed leg; you can put it in the bator also. Have fun with the chicks!

The pink marker thing is real funny! You must've been very proud of yourself for having pulled that one off! Congrats on all of your chickies hatched!
