Will your dog give birth close to the date or is more of a suggested date like with horses? Like my mare is due April 30th, but anytime from April 16-June practically is considered normal.

Good luck with those pups, would love to see lots of pics, what kind are they?

I have one speckled sussex chick under my one of my broodies ( I have four setting right now) She has a mix of eggs under her, I am hoping for more Orloffs, because my hens are getting older and not laying so good. I think she has two of them under her. The sussex seem to be and hatch under every hen I have, lol.

One broody stopped sitting on her eggs

, my little self blue oeg, she was actually on her own eggs. She would sit at night only for the last day or so and other hens who found her hidden nest in my barn would go in and lay eggs there during the day. I would throw those out. Now I stuck them under another broody ( I have broody's everywhere

) hope they may still hatch.

My BCM eggs seem to be doing well in the bator, go into lockdown on the 27th. My dh got out the generator for the incubator and my koi fish pond pump on the day the power company cut the power for hours for maintainance. Yippee!

Good Hatching everyone!

So glad to see that you had a sollution for your pre-warned power cut.

The things that I may have tried:
A jar of water with lid in the incubator at that temp for when the power shut off, it would hold some heat for a while. Also, a rock or two, that would hold heat.
Pocket heaters, packets that you smash & rub together to start them off.
You already had the blanket idea for covering it to keep heat in.

Happy hatching with all of your broody hens too!

Well I've got eggs due to hatch on the 29/30. I also have a broody w/ eggs due next month and two more that I haven't given real eggs to yet. I'm trying to find another breed and the auction is tomorrow.

On lockdown now. Eggs are due to hatch on Sunday but suddenly had some temp and humidity issues. Don't know how long they were at 106! They started rocking not long after I set them down but I haven't seen anything today. Hubby said he say one move just a little while ago, but I think he's trying to cheer me up.

I guess a watched egg doesn't rock.

I really want these BCMs

I have 4 coppers now another one pipped are coppers just slow? It's hard to tell in there and tomorrow I have to take the turkeys out. I put 11 coppers in there 2 were probably not good so only 1/2 have hatched and when they pip it is so small you can hardly tell. Last time I shrink rapped one I sure don't want to do that again it just seems like they are so slow to hatch

We heard a faint peep last night around 10 pm but nothing so far. I'm going to run down in a bit to check and see if there was any progress.

Well, we're nearly into the 4th week of April & I see that there are still some "rockers, pips & lockdown." So it's still happening this month, will be hanging around this thread until you're all done.

I didn't hatch any thing in April as planned, but will see what I can come up with in May. Waiting for a breeder to be ready to ship eggs soon, that I'll incubate. My attempt at broody hatching did not work out this month with a first time broody hen; she kept jumping to other nests with fresh layed eggs. Will try again later & give her more practice.

I'm starting the 'MAY HATCH-A-LONG come join in' today. So, join in there too for more fun. Thank you all for sharing & continuing to share your hatches.

Well there was some activity this a.m. early around 4

We ended up with 13 RIR's going into lockdown and one had pipped and out of 9 of our own New Hampshire Reds X with White Leghorn that went into lockdown one of those had pipped. Well the one RIR all of a sudden shook and rocked and broke out of its shell completely within a couple minutes around 8:30 a.m. The other one that had pipped has only managed to get an dime sized hole open in its shell and there is cracking but as of right now all I can see through the hole is its little beak just open and closing slowly. Every now and then there seems to be a bit of fluid/bubbles around is beak but then it is almost hole side down in the incubator. It just seems like it should be able to get its opening up to the top but can't get its egg to move. Then the one that did hatch is the reason it is almost hole down to the floor....that one keeps walking on and between the eggs and it is turning it upside down

I so badly want to help it out but I know if I open the incubator we could loose any others...IF anything else is going to happen in there. Tonight is day 21 so I guess something could still happen. We can hold out until Monday right? that would be 2 days past their due date. Oh I so hope this little one makes it and some others too, this is getting tough wondering what is going on. The temp and humidity has stayed pretty constant throughout the entire time. The humidity since lockdown was 64 with the occasional rise/drop when the one was hatching. Well we will keep our

a bit longer
