First you. You need to move your broodies to a private place away from the other hens. When they get out once a day to do their business another hen gets in and lays and egg. When the broody comes back she just gets in another nest that has eggs. Her hormones just tell her to sit on eggs. She doesn't care what or whose. I've has some go broody on wooden eggs.
Also some broodies don't make good mothers. Of course she could have just got confuse because of the other chickens in the coop.

Now you. Sometimes a hatch occurs over a sucession of days. I jsut had a hatch that started 2 days early. I took the first chick out. That was tuesday. The rest happend over wed. , thurs., and friday. They can take some time. While some were still getting out others would pip, zip and be out. All eggs started on the same day. Be patient and don't rush them. They won't die if they have to wait a couple of days.

All the best

hmmmm.. ok. I took the baby back to her this morning and she was sitting on an egg again. I put the baby on the floor and she jumped down to it. She has been a real "mother hen" all day with it. I saw her take on two roosters that got to close. I just worry that she is not getting it out from under her. It needs to eat and drink and it hasn't since it was in the box last night.

I expect that if your hen is taking good care of the chick then her instincts will get the chick to the food & water that she will go to. The chicks can go 2 days without eating or drinking. The broody hens do better if there is little interference from the other chickens though, separating them is a good idea. Have fun watching it grow!
