April Hatch Along

Pics
I've checked a few times in the last month... Only the one sits. I can only tell that one apart because of the white chest aha! Maybe there's not enough cover. I can see them out the window doing their thing. Didn't know if they're too young or just not quite comfortable yet.

They are cracking down on poultry sales. Now to sell poultry or hatching eggs you have to be NPIP.

I have to say, Maryland is a state with the most absurd laws!! And taxes!! Rain tax... WHAT...

Yes, it used to just be that you had to register your premises (which no one ever did) and get a permit to sell eating eggs (also what no one ever did). Now you need both a permit and to be NPIP for live poultry and hatching eggs. The could say its motivated by the AI stuff but AI testing isn't even required so I'm not sure what's going on. Basically poultry sales are going to be like drug transactions where you need to meet in a dark alley and make sure you aren't being followed and we market our birds through cryptic slang messages lol.

Thats sooo crazy. I'm in east TN so it's pretty laid back here. My bf is from Elkridge and my family is mostly from the Baltimore area, way at back in the day

I'm hoping in the next year 2 years to be able to sell fertile/eating eggs/chicks/ducklings. Planning to dabble with goats and sheep also. Hope no MD politicians decide to bring their shenanigans this way.

My first incubator

For those of you that are using, or have used farm innovators forced air incubators(I'm at sea level) did you leave the red ventilation plugs out for the whole incubation or just at lock down?

Oh great Virginia is probably next. Good thing I'm getting my NPIP soon. We have some of the strictest import/export laws. You know it's tough when for sale posts say "will ship to all states except Alaska, Hawaii, and Virginia"...

I have noticed that. For certain breeds of turkeys, too, I think. I thought about getting my NPIP before all this started (it started January 1st but I was just made aware a couple of weeks ago) but I'm not sure my "facilities" or flock management would meet NPIP guidelines since my birds do free range, and the netting over my run is 2" to keep snow and leaves from building up on it which means that wild little tweety birds can come in there...and I have six guineas that free range and wander way off my property. The way the regulations are written it sounds like you basically have to run it like a commercial chicken house.
