Did you have any problems with heat or humidity towards the end? Did you do an eggtopsy to see what it looked like inside?

I did. I got the humidity at 65-70% but then the temp went down to 97 or so. I had to get the temp back up, which I did after a few hours. They were alive after that hiccup, I saw the egg move/rolling and that is what has me stumped. I did look inside and it didn't look like either one had even tried to move or pip or anything. Both membranes were fully intact and still moist.

yeah...I didn't have any intention of opening...but thank you for your words of support. I realize the first time is the hardest...I am sure they will be fine. I remember the first time I was pregnant and wanting to hurry up and see my baby boy. It feels remarkably similar lol the excitement partnered with impatience...:D

Well today we went into lockdown had a few temps spikes and a couple chilly evenings that brought temps down and hopefully that made no negative impact. Having a heck of a time getting humidity up. It seems to be a fine balance of air circulation, water surface area, and heat. I am hatching in a home made aquarium incubator this run so I am interested in the hatch ratio! 10 eggs of 12 made it to locksown so we shall see soon! :D

Yay! Chick #1 outta the shell and napping. Silver Pencilled Plymouth Rock. Only 31 more to go! Ha! Light Sussex is next ...

Well done really pleased for you!!!!!!!!!

Woke up at the crack of dawn hearing chirpping - but it was only the dawn chorus of the local wildlife. Nothing else happening just a tiny dent in the side of one of the heavey eggs. I can hear faint tapping but nothing startling going on.

As for my unabsorbed-yolk-chick he's very much alive. In fact he's chirping so loudly that it's almost annoying. Almost. Mostly it's just satisfying to hear that he's doing well and full of energy. I'm so relieved! As long as he doesnt get an infection now I'm sure he'll pull through.

Going out with breakfast for the girls and checking on the other egg under the broodies now... Heard chirping last night... Wish me luck!

Quote: I totally know that feeling! I have lots of birds, and usuaslly three incubators in my master closet (aka the hatch room) so I hear something a lot like a chick and I go check. LOL. Although, sometimes I'd almost swear I heard something from the bator, a little "peep" now and then that sure makes me wonder.

Keep that yolk sac damp if you can. The more the chick moves around the fast it will absorb usually. I've sometimes had them hatch themselves too soon, but I must honeslty say that not that many make it to 10 days. I've sadly lost them suddenly at a week and wondered if it were an infection taking place. I've said a little prayer for your chick.

I've disinfected his navel, fingers are crossed that he doesnt get an infection. I know it can happen, but will just have to wait and see.

When I went to check on the other egg this morning it was still not externally pipped, and the chirping was fading. My gut told me to pip it for him, so after some careful consideration I decided to do so. Turns out he was shrinkwrapped so I took him inside and did an assisted hatch. Thanks to BYC I felt well prepared to do it even though I have never done it before - so much great detailed info on here!

Anyways, the membrane showed no signs of bleeding at all and it was clear that he was really ready to come out. I cracked the top of the egg open, bit by bit, so he got his head and one of the wings out. Then I stuck him in the incubator and let him kick himself out of the shell. No yolk sack on the outside, navel is closed and he's a real active little bugger chirping away in the bator. So at least I got one that there's nothing wrong with. Phew! The next two eggs are due on the 29th (yep, I'm doing a staggered hatch). It turns out the eggs I thought my orpingtons were laying, actually belonged to my bantam cochin. I suddenly have two little mixes on my hands and probably more to come!

Update - back from the store and -----------------------------

Sad to say still nothing NOTHINIG!!!!!!!!!!!! I am begining to get worried now as I think the window is passing?
Oh well when you think of it the eggs were not in good shape really at the start so if anything grew in them at all I would be surprized - it was worth a shot.

I am leaving them till Sunday then doing eggtopsy. Gosh that so sounds sad to say that word after all the hype and hope?
