Thought I'd take another quick look before I finished making dinner (an egg quiche compliments of Mrs. Ingalls and Gemma, my BCMs.) lo and behold PIPS!!!!!!! And major chirping. Major. I actually teared up at the miracle of it all.

emergency question, i was baby sitting some kids for my friend and they wanted to paint their nails, so i gave them some polish and they were playing with it. i was in the bathroom when i heard a "oh no!" apperently, they were trying to paint my new born chick's nails and it ate a couple of drops right from the bottle! it has it all over its eye feathers, and it's whole inside mouth is pink. will it die? i didnt want to get mad at the kids, but inside i was raging! they should have asked me first....kids... anyway, i hope it will survive...do you think it will make it? how do i help it?

Mine chicks are due on the 28!!!!! I can't wait we got 36 quails out of 72, but only 59 were fertile
Dh and I are happy. Think it was pretty good for 1st time. I hope for at least 50% from chicks!!!! Just can't wait not one of m virtues!!!!!

Hey everyone

I haven't been here in a good while, we've been building the new chicken pens & are nearly done! They are turning out nicely & the chickens love their new spaces. I've had some bad hatches of late- only 1 of my bantam polish hatched out of 10 fully formed chicks- all died in the shell during lockdown! The 1 chick died shortly after hatching. None of my SFH eggs hatched, 6 again died during lockdown. I was so upset. I have a suspicion that 'someone' was opening the bator while we were out working on the pens- the only 'someone' in the house was my MIL who is 90 and can't leave things alone... Yes I know how that sounds but you'd have to be in my shoes to understand. Anyway, when I put my SLW eggs, only had 2 in lockdown, I decided to put 2 tiny pieces of tape on the bator that way IF 'someone' was fooling with it I would know- and guess what? Yesterday 2 perfect chicks hatched out right on time! And the tape was intact... So I've decided to keep up with the tape for all future hatches while she is here

I have bourbon red turkey eggs in lockdown now- we'll see how it goes...

I've missed talking to everyone & hearing about hatches- hope everyone is doing well!!! I'll be checking back more from now on I hope!

Oh my, I'd have guessed it was the kids but MIL? lol, that is funny and frustrating I'm sure. Glad you got your 2 chicks!
