April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

Okay, so now you have me wondering. I went back to check dates, etc. and here is what my dates are officially, according to my egg-turning chart ...
Set date: April 6
Lockdown Date: April 23
Expected Hatch Date: April 26

I locked them down Tuesday, first thing in the morning, so I am expecting the majority to hatch tomorrow (Friday) morning. I don't think I had any temperature spikes or lows like last time, so we should pretty much be on schedule. My temperature the last 3 days has been holding steady at 100-101 (still air runs higher and that's okay), and humidity has stayed pretty much 71-73%. I am hearing very strong peeping, but cannot for the life of me determine which eggs it's coming from. NOTHING is rockin' & rollin'. With that kinda noise, I wouldn't surprised if I suddenly look in the bator tonight and voila ... a chick or 2 rather quickly.

I'll keep you posted.

I thought you were about 12 hours behind me! As we set on the 5th but afternoon. Did you set on the 6th AM? Our 18 days then landed on the 22nd but PM as we set late on the 5th. Which kind of means we are not that far appart. We went to lockdown early 23rd - so am due anytime. Weve had spikes from 99.5 - 102 - So I don;t know?????? NO cherping thats for sure here. I am begining to worry a bit that nothing will hatch - ????

Hope you get to hear some chirping soon! How many eggs do you have that are due?

Okay, so I guess I lied. Just checked on the eggs and I officially have strong chirping going on! No movement, but definitely chirping. Hoping for pips by end of the day.

Also, an update on the Silver Plymouth Rock egg I dropped and shattered on day 18. After 2 days of keeping it wrapped in warm moist paper towels, in hopes of it making it out alive, it did indeed die last night. So sad. Fully formed with the most amazing feather pattern. While I am sad about this, I am also now very excited to see the new chicks that hatch, as they will be beautiful! Also hatching Light Sussex, Wheaten Marans and Mottled Houdans, besides the gorgeous SPRs.

That's so exciting! Sorry about the one who died - these things happen from time to time, so don't beat yourself up about it. Within the next 24 hours you'll have a load of little fuzzballs!

I only have 4 eggs. We had them posted but on rescipt two were damaged. One was squashed and the other was stuck to the packaging and disintigrated. We set the other 4 but I think, about day 14 I noticed one egg had a crack so I thought it must have been from the post and we just didn;t notice. We candled it and there was a live chick inside so we waxed it to help preserve the shell. So 4 is all I have before lockdown we noticed two were heavey and one was a lot lighter ( Maybe early quitter?) The waxed egg felt heavey on one end? ( Maybe late quitter?) So I don;t know about them????? The two heavey ones are a better chance to hatch? We will see - nothing yet here though - tender hooks - no cherps zilch NOTHING!!!!!!!!

Oes - I sooooo want a chickie this time

Stay patient, it's still not too late! I really hope you get one. I got my first babychick today! But not sure if he/she will make it as it had an unabsorbed yolk sack... Crossing fingers now!

We took him out of the incubator to snip the umbellical cord (tied it at the top with a sewing-string and it didn't bleed or anything).

Here he is:

And I was expecting a buff orpington.... HaHA

I set my Barnevelder eggs April 5th too! Not a peep from them yet...but not technically due until tomorrow, right?

I guess it all depends if you set them Am or Pm? what day they are due. - If you think tomorrow then I am feeling a bit more possitive as there isn;t a sign of anything here at all.

I wish I could go to bed and wake up with 4 healthy live lovely chickie babies. We have to go shopping tomorrow and my DDs dog is comming for the weekend
- oh joy! So I guess I might have too much on to hang over the bator? Darn

You should not have done that!!!!!!!!! You should Leave him in the bator he was still absorbing the food from the yolk sac and it would drop off naturally!!!!!!!!! Don;t do that with any of the others and NO snipping!!!!!!!!! Leave it be! It is exhausted they need to stay in the bator until they fluff up and they can stay there for 3 days tops. They get all they need from that yolk!!!!! Also your in Lockdown that means you don;t open the bator!!!!!!!!! -

If I were you I would also factor in that some people don't even count the Set Day as Day One. They count at 24 hours as Day One. I would not even start to worry until late Saturday. They just are very quiet, well-behaved chicks-to-be who are patiently testing you to see what they can get away with after they hatch. Go in there and give them a good talking to! Seriously, mine are only cheeping when I make a loud squeaking noise on the bator window.

Ha ha - I actually thought about getting a tape of a momma hen squalking away next to the Bator to "encourage them!" I am so not good at waiting. Probably because last time was such a screw up and we lost so many chicks. This time I am soooooo hoping something will hatch. I know some folk don;t count the first day. - I was kind of thinking anytime between now and Saterday night? After that I would start to worry more. - I am gonna go crow infront of the bator and see what happens?

Any sign of a pip yet???????

No signs of pips, but it is noisy in there. I still can't figure who is making the noise though. I'm hoping it's not the bluejay outside my window.
