April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

Well, at least you didn't miss a single thing! If it makes you feel any better, my eggs have not moved a muscle either. Not due til tomorrow or Saturday, but last hatch started early. was hoping for a few pips or chirps this morning, but nothing yet.
Okay, so I guess I lied. Just checked on the eggs and I officially have strong chirping going on! No movement, but definitely chirping. Hoping for pips by end of the day.

Also, an update on the Silver Plymouth Rock egg I dropped and shattered on day 18. After 2 days of keeping it wrapped in warm moist paper towels, in hopes of it making it out alive, it did indeed die last night. So sad. Fully formed with the most amazing feather pattern. While I am sad about this, I am also now very excited to see the new chicks that hatch, as they will be beautiful! Also hatching Light Sussex, Wheaten Marans and Mottled Houdans, besides the gorgeous SPRs.

What day did you set????????? Mine were set on the afternoon of the 5th - which means we technically only hit the 21 day mark tonight! So I am thinking we are a little early to expect anything really. We went into Lockdown on the morning of the 19th day not the evening of the 18th - so have to take that into account too. - Mine are due anytime after 6 tonight through - friday.
We will see what happens but went into lockdawn same time as you and you are not seeing anything. Let me know when you get your first hatch and then I can gage round about when to expect anything here. - ???? Maybe mine will pop first will let you know if anything comes???? Honestly though these eggs were in a right state when they came so I am not expecting miricles. Though obviously something was growing two are very heavy one not so much and waxed egg is just heavey on one end so maybe a late quitter.

Anyhow I am hovering over the bator like an idiot - thing is the temp seems to raise in the early afternoon for some mad reason and has done everyday??????? Nothing has changed though? I opened the window and let air into the room today to try to get the temp down hovering at 102 darn! Maybe hatching activity????? raising the temp?????? Wishful thinking lol

Oes - darn back to waiting

Hey everyone

I haven't been here in a good while, we've been building the new chicken pens & are nearly done! They are turning out nicely & the chickens love their new spaces. I've had some bad hatches of late- only 1 of my bantam polish hatched out of 10 fully formed chicks- all died in the shell during lockdown! The 1 chick died shortly after hatching. None of my SFH eggs hatched, 6 again died during lockdown. I was so upset. I have a suspicion that 'someone' was opening the bator while we were out working on the pens- the only 'someone' in the house was my MIL who is 90 and can't leave things alone... Yes I know how that sounds but you'd have to be in my shoes to understand. Anyway, when I put my SLW eggs, only had 2 in lockdown, I decided to put 2 tiny pieces of tape on the bator that way IF 'someone' was fooling with it I would know- and guess what? Yesterday 2 perfect chicks hatched out right on time! And the tape was intact... So I've decided to keep up with the tape for all future hatches while she is here

I have bourbon red turkey eggs in lockdown now- we'll see how it goes...

I've missed talking to everyone & hearing about hatches- hope everyone is doing well!!! I'll be checking back more from now on I hope!

Okay, so now you have me wondering. I went back to check dates, etc. and here is what my dates are officially, according to my egg-turning chart ...
Set date: April 6
Lockdown Date: April 23
Expected Hatch Date: April 26

I locked them down Tuesday, first thing in the morning, so I am expecting the majority to hatch tomorrow (Friday) morning. I don't think I had any temperature spikes or lows like last time, so we should pretty much be on schedule. My temperature the last 3 days has been holding steady at 100-101 (still air runs higher and that's okay), and humidity has stayed pretty much 71-73%. I am hearing very strong peeping, but cannot for the life of me determine which eggs it's coming from. NOTHING is rockin' & rollin'. With that kinda noise, I wouldn't surprised if I suddenly look in the bator tonight and voila ... a chick or 2 rather quickly.

I'll keep you posted.

I put 19 egss out of 26 shipped eggs into lockdown on the 22nd and 14 are hatching or hatched since yesterday morning. They are Basque hens and doing great. After my last hatch where 12 of SFH eggs that went into lockdown and nothing, this has helped the confidence. Not a bad hatch for shipped eggs, the ones from Florida are doing better than the ones from Texas. I thought it would be the other way.

Ain't that the truth! My FB friends pretty much completely ignore my chicken posts. At first they asked if I had turned farmer (I am a professional real estate agent and they view me as wearing skirts and 4 inch platform heels with pretty nails.) I do have to admit I have done away with the pretty nails after hanging with my chickens for 6 months!

I know right!!! Hence why I'm on here more than Facebook anymore.

Glad to know it's not just me! My friends call me the crazy chicken lady. Lol.

As for the hatching, the first one was hatched as I checked on them an hour ago! I expected a buff orpington, but he's black. A funny suprise, he must be from my bantam kochin then, she's the only black chicken I have. I didn't think the roosters could actually fertilize her eggs though, and I've never seen her be mated. Well, I have proof now...

Unfortunately the little guy has some of his yolk sack still out. So I took him inside, wrapped him up in some cloth and stuck him in the incubator. He seems in good shape, peeping away and moving alot. Not able to stand though. Kinda sucks, as it's the first chicken we're able to hatch - our last hatches has ended while they were still in the eggs...
