April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

My hatch has now been in the incubator for almost two hours...haha I feel like an expectant mommy. Got great shipped eggs, Dorkings from both BethBug and an awesome "hen's choice" variety from Chooks Chick. Superbly packed and loads of extras. you can't go wrong ordering from either of those ladies I am also using ChooksChick incubation cheat sheet found here https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/chookschicks-incubation-cheat-sheet In addition to these eggs I put in a dozen barnyard mixes from my own and my uncle's hens so we shall see what happens. Praying for a good result for all of the April Hatchers :) Oh and according to the Old Farmer's Almanac if you set and incubate during the waxing moon...which is now...you will have a higher hatch rate and healthier chicks. Don't know how accurate it is but I don't mind going with the Old Farmers :D
Does that mean the eggs that have been in there are covered by this "waxing moon" trick or do I have to actually set today?!? I hope it covers EVERYTHING! :fl :gig

No they don't have to be set today but I think the waning moon starts 4/26. The OFA says that the 4th is actually the best day because then your hatch date is 4/25 which is the full moon as are the 22-24. But I think that if your eggs are developing as the moon is than you are good. Nothing wrong with setting them any old day that works I just got a little happy that my hatch was accidentally timed right.

My Ameraucunas have arrived! A few have scary looking air cells, a few tiny ones and one HUGE grey egg... I'm thinking that either the hens were a bit young for hatching eggs or there may be a mix up of some sort. Most eggs are blueish or pink but the little ones are green, VERY green. They glowed lime colored when I candled them! Well I guess we'll see what happens!

I am hatching my first eggs under one of my hens that went broody! I know next to nothing about what I am doing and welcome help! I had a friend help me set up a coop with a heat lamp, Janet is in the back corner of the coop sitting on two eggs (we started with 4 but she kicked 2 out)

They hit 21 days on April 3
One pipped this morning
The other is chirping but no hole.
How warm does it need to be in there tonight?
How often should i check on them?
Does humidity matter?
