April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

My LG still air is holding heat! I monkeyed around with it for days before setting and it seems to be paying off! My digital hygrometer however looses its digital display when I put it in the bator. Take it out and the display is clear, put it in and some of the bars disappear so I can't tell a 35 from a 26 from or a 56 from an 86. I have to replace it. It worked fine until I put the eggs in.

Not candling until day 7. Most of the eggs are special and shipped and I am a klutz. Therefore I am so worried about dropping or somehow damaging them that I cant bring myself to handle them any more than I have to. 7, 14 and 18 are the days. I have no sense of smell so I will have to rely on my menfolk to let me know if something smells bad.

Sorry to hear about your hygrometer. Is there anyway you can get just the bottom part in the incubator and leave the digital display outside (in case that clears it up)?

HAHAHAHAHAHA...believe me, though I miss it, I don't miss that part of it

LBKS I am afraid to make any changes now that the eggs are in and the heat looks so good, but that is not a bad idea...I think I will find one with a probe.

It's been a BUSY 24 hours over here! Had some early hatchers, and it's not even Day 21 yet (tonight) and I have 8 peepers out, 2 zipping, and at least 7 more pips!

Here are the first 5 babies in the brooder

My lavander and blue Ameraucunas are in the incubator! Fingers crossed for a decent hatch the box was a bit crushed so who knows what happened. I'm going to leave them in a paper crate with holes punched through the bottoms and just tilt back and forth rather than hand turn. Hoping to get about 7-8 hens out of these two different batches to start my flock.

CONGRATULATION HATCHERS!!!! Lots of cute babies!:jumpy

First batch of eggs are on day 17. I'm about to go up and turn off the turner and separate the EOs out into a hatch basket so I can tell them from the pureblood marans.

Set another 36 last night in the coolerbator. A dozen BLRW, 6 bantam phoenix, and the rest are porcelain d'uccles and blue mille fleurs.

Worked on the coop today. Of course, today is the day we finally get some rain. Went from partly cloudy and 60 degrees out, to drenching us with icy cold rain and gusting winds. Will have it all finished by next weekend. Gotta get my helper to come back and help me cut the metal for the roofing and all that.

Congrats to those who have adorable babies hatching.

still waiting... I take my flashlight to get a good look in the bator and I give it a good 4 time over inspection through the top, resisting all urges to open it every 10-15 min or so...

then I pace outside look at where the broody silkie is and pace back inside... I hae only checked on the progress 2 times since this morning.... I think that is pretty good

and I just lift her belly up a little bet to see if I have more than a pip.... no such luck... I will resist checking her eggs again till tomarrow morning! (I NEED a sitting on your hands icon!....or a pacing back and forth icon!)

I am only starting !! Day 3 with my little ones.
Though I am not sure what will happen because they are not the right eggs! They are supposed to be Silver grey Dorkings but are blue and Dorkings are supposed to be white? So I think we got a random lucky dip! Anyhow they are in - we had 6 but one was broken in the packing and the other came appart because it was stuck to the packing with the goo of the broken one. So lost two before we started! We will see if anything comes of these? They are due to hatch 25-27th April.
