Sometimes they just get tired and go to sleep for a wee rest - just like any baby! Glad to hear he is moving again! Good for you! NOW LEAVE THAT BLASTED BATOR LID DOWN!!!

Trader Joes and Whole Foods sell fertile eggs that will hatch. You have to get the freshest ones. Tjs are White Leghorns and Whole Foods are either California Whites or Austra Whites.

I hatched two TJs leghonrs.

That's crazy. We have both those stores here in CT but I never pay attention to the eggs because I have my own. I'm assuming that these are chilled eggs - have you found higher percentages of females? Read that some study showed higher female ratios in eggs that were chilled below 45 degree range. Wondered if that's been true from your experiences

Mine are due 12th or 13th as well 1 more week!!!! Ditto on what you got? I have an assortment, EEs, Marans, Austrolorps, Barred Rocks...
I've just got silkies. I started with 10 shipped eggs and I'm down to 4. That's ok with me. I'm just hatching this one time for fun. I'm new to chickens so this is all a learning experience.

I HAVE PICTURES... had to run to the store for more batteries... of course!

I couldn't help it and candled last night (day 5) and was pleasantly surprised! Almost all the eggs are developing, most have darker shells so I can't see veins but I do see some nice looking embryos starting. My Blue Copper Marans aren't doing much sadly, but maybe I'm not seeing it just yet.

In other news, I got 4 little buddies for my one lonely chick from the last hatch. It's very happy with it's new friends. 3 Ameraucanas and 1 silkie/polish mix. The Ameraucanas are SO docile, they love being held and fall over asleep when my kids pet them just right. Very cute :) I can easily see myself with too many chickens in the near future!
