April Hatch Thread--Come Join Us!

Congrats on all the new chicks!

I am waiting on the eggs to finish cookin' for next week's hatch. In process of ordering more eggs for a second week of May hatch, then I'll be done for this year's hatching I think.

I've been distracting myself working on fencing, but this weekend I need to finish setting up the brooder and continue working on the coop/run. One thing is for sure: I won't be bored!

Congrats to all those hatching!

Quick update here... I have not candled the eggs under my broody hen yet. It's been raining & windy here so I just haven't messed with her. Those eggs are on day 11. Maybe I'll get out there today... ?

I still haven't received my olive egger hatching eggs. :(. I was supposed to be getting them a week ago already. As far as I know she still hasn't sent them. I'm a patient person so I will continue to wait. I guess in the meantime I'm hoping for another broody hen. I have my next set of silkie eggs ready... but my incubator is in hiatus. If I get a spontaneous hen, then I can set them... Otherwise they're going to go to waste waiting for the olive eggers.

Hi All,

I have a batch of barnyard mixes "scheduled" to hatch on Saturday (incubator). My last batch last month didn't go well, so I am hoping this one goes better. I think I had a humidity issue. All the eggs developed, but none hatched. I'm really hoping to have some success this time! I noticed one of the Leghorn eggs rocking a bit. I hope that it is a good sign!

Question, is there normally alot of egg movement prior to the chicks hatching. I guess I am looking for some sign that I will get some chicks this time. I candled my white eggs right before lockdown and they all looked fully developed. Didn't bother with the dark ones since I couldn't see anything!

Some do more than others! They are getting into position for hatch! Good Luck! Hope you have a great hatch@

Mine moved only slightly last time. When I would watch them, my eyes would hurt and it was next to impossible to see them move. Kinda like watching for shooting stars...... but I suppose if they have the space in the egg, they could really get it noticeably moving.

Some of mine were really moving! Rocking and rolling like they were dancing LOL!

today is day 7 for my first round, then in two day increments it will be day 7 for the rest of my eggs. I am hoping to be able to get the majority to hatch. I hope to have a good hatch like last time. I think I might have to set another 12 by sat if they don't get bought, or I could put them in the fridge to be eaten or bought for eating. I am wanting to put in more but I timed the hatching's to where it was all in the same week-hopefully-so they all could be sold at once.

yesterday storms weren't as bad as I thought they might be..it's a cold/breezy 50ish day today. it has been in the 80's but no one seems affected-just checked the babies and they are no worse for ware, they sure are hardy buggers! I am so anxious to be getting more of the specialty breeds but I am trying to not go over board...plus I need to make more space first. so all in all everything seems to be going just fine.

congrats on everyone's hatchings...good to hear of everyone's success!

Goodness. Midnight last night I had a pip. This morning that chick was out and fluffed. No other external pips yet, but eggs are still rocking around. Hopefully this kiddo does as well at everything else! Pics later once I fish him/her out of the bator.
