Almost anything will work really, but a small diameter very bright mag light or led light(the best!) Is better. I use a Smith and Wesson 9 bulb led that you can spot from a mile. I can see fine even in Marans eggs after about the 7 day mark.

Ok, so my shipped eggs are comming 3 days apart... have some ready to go in tonght (that will be a full 24hour wait from when I recieved them) and the other group is being shipped today
Will it be better to wait till tomarrow morning/afternoon/night to put these in and then if I pick my eggs up from the post office sat morning I can set them late Saterday night (that is only waiting 12 hours) and the two batches will be 24- 36 hours apart... and I can probably treat them all the same for lockdown
OR
Should I go ahead with these tonight and set the others Sat night (after 12 hours) and that would be 2 days apart
OR
should I go ahead with these tonight AND wait a full 24 hours on the next ones.... and then they would be 3 1/2 days apart
OR should I wait till tomarrow for these AND wait a full 24 hours for the others .... and that would be back to 3 days apart

oh the bator is pre-set for chickens 99.5 and it is just a normal one nothing fancy no fan and I have to turn them myself though DH does that - for "his babies!" lol Maybe they will hatch late if the temp is set a bit low? Though it looks like 99.5 to me maybe 100??? Fingers crossed I guess. Even the eggs are the wrong colour? Only 4 in the bator and I bet we will get some Roo boys but thank goodness I already got someone to take them this time! We are not allowed them here. - Oh please let me get a blue laying hen!!!!!!??????????

Along with turkeys hatching, we got 3 little doe goats this weekend
I have a yellow chick!!!! it is from a clucku marren or RIR (I think maren) and the possible roosters are an EE (he is mostly whie) and a Spangled Hamburg.... the chick has yellow feet and a very small come .... maybe pea... so EE is daddy??? do this mean it is a sex linked chick.... if so would it be a boy or girl?

In the last couple days i have just had my first batch of incubated chicks, 7 healthy and doing fine, 1 not so brilliant but getting stronger slowly. 
The mums were warrens and the dad was a light buff Sussex. I was thinking of getting some pedigree ones of some sort any one got any suggestions?
