April/May Grow-a-long!

Ok, not sure how well it photographed, but my olive egger is getting the most subtle barring (?) on her feathers coming in! ❤️❤️.

Well.. This wasn't expected. Put the 5 week old chicks (our first ever) out in the coop this morning (they do still have supplemental heat out there)... An hour later we were in the car to a farm my wife found 2 hours away.. And came home with 6 more chicks. Currently under the brooder plate warming up so I'll get pictures tomorrow. 2 cream legbars, 2 marans (I believe he said they were blue copper but my memory could be wrong), and 2 of his project chicks, mosaic Easter eggers. Chicken math is going to cost me a fortune.

I will have to post some pictures of my April babies! They are 8 days old. They are in my coop brooder with the 4 weeks old. I have a couple that mainly stick right with the big ones. They are funny since I open the brooder door to visit them and the big ones come right out and ALWAYS the same 2 little ones will be right there too. The other little ones take a bit longer. The other day one of the little ones was feeling quite BIG and kept jumping down from the door (I leave it slanted up so they sit on the edge most times instead of running out in the coop) and running around the coop. OMG it looked so teeny tiny in the coop! haahaa.

Then I will have some that are due to hatch May 4th and most likely some around May 26th or so. LOL

Here are some from my April hatch, there are lots of 1 since she is always out when I open the door. Then some of the feathers from my others since the are frizzles.

Here's a couple of pics. Had to put them under a red light as they were picking on the one, who happens to be the smallest. Her wings are all messed up looking, hopefully they heal up quick.

Lost track of this thread, but now I'm back!

The Dominiques are two weeks old and are progressing nicely. I've not been able to handle them as much as I did with the Sussex.

Three of the chicks had pasty butt, probably partly due to the stress of shipping but perhaps being handled by USPS workers didn't help. I was told that giving them moistened chick feed might help, and no more pasty butt!

I created a play yard for them that keeps them safe from curious big chicks.
