April/May Grow-a-long!

I also took my little babies outside, the EE are HUGE! The 3 EEs and 3 of the D’Uccles are 2 weeks and all the others are 1 almost 2 weeks. (The one that is black with a white head is 3 weeks)

Last night (Thursday) I got a text from USPS saying the chicks would arrive on MONDAY! I freaked, sent an email to Cackle Hatchery.

Then this morning I missed a call from the main post office. I called back to confirm the chicks were there. The lady I talked to said "Yes! They're here. They're so cute. We've been playing with them..."

:eek: :eek::eek:

They opened the box???

I drove over immediately, picked up the chicks whose box was taped. By the postal worker I guess...

The chicks were making a lot of noise so I turned the heat on in the car and directed it towards the floor, on the box. They quieted down most of the way home.

Once we got home I opened the box and saw six chicks, one extra. I offered them warm water which they drank greedily.

Then I took them out to the brooder and put them under the MHP. I've gone out twice since and found them cheeping noisily by the door, next to the waterer. I shoo them back under the MHP.

My other chickens are curious and keep going over to the brooder.

More later...

In their “playpen” (the brooder is outside, but I try to bring them in for some attention each day). They are on a small heating pad for a quick nap ❤️ (they have an actual heat-plate style MHP in the real brooder).

Not sure how obvious it is in the photo, but the orpington is pretty small compared to the olive egger (marans x easter egger), and has fewer feathers. They allegedly both hatched Sunday…are orpingtons slow-growing? I reallllllllly hope it isn’t a case of a sneaky male chick.

Wasn't sure whether to join this thread or the Feb/March thread. I got my 2 chicks from TCS the last week of March. Here is their growth so far... (day 23 is today)
ISA Brown/Gold Sexlink

They will be added to my flock of 6 pullets and 1 cockerel. Those ones I acquired at 3-5 months of age this past year, so these 2 chicks are my first chicks. Trying to interact everyday with them.
